2020 Trek FX3 - How wide of a tire can it take?
I love my 2020 Trek FX3 and have 38mm wide H5 Ultimate tires on it. My wife has some skinny 32mm tires (I think) on her 2015 and I was thinking of transplanting my H5's to her and getting a slightly wider tire to maybe better accommodate gravel rides.
Anyway, does anyone know what the widest tire I can put on a 2020 FX3 is? Or am I perhaps already at the max width? Thanks!

I would take a calipers or tape measure to your tires -- are they actually 38mm wide? If so, you can probably judge fairly accurately how much more clearance you have. The tire will also get larger in diameter as it gets wider, but this is slight. If you think you have a safe 5mm all around, you can probably do a 45mm tire. There are four places to check:
- Fork crown at the front.
- Chain stays near the bottom bracket.
- Seat stays near the seat post.
- Front derailleur at its most inward travel (sometimes wider tires can want to strike the inside of the front derailleur cage).
