Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Here's a pic of my "Rehab bike".
My bike matches my best bud!

I was trying to recreate the bike from American Flyer with this one.

I built up a Salsa Casseroll up this summer. Usually I need to ride a bike for a while before deciding whether I really like it not but this bike just felt right the first time I rode it. I bought the frame in 2007 in part because I really liked the color and in part because I liked the concept of the bike. I like the idea of a steel road bike with a compact frame, horizontal drop outs, front and rear eyelets, and long reach brakes. That way you get a fast but versatile road bike.

My Scott CR1 Pro 2012. New old stock frame set bought this month for £450 and built up with parts from my Felt F85. I'm going to ditch the gold Planet X callipers for black ones, and I'm currently looking for a nice light carbon seat post and new bars and stem. I'm also thinking of getting all black Praxis chain rings for the FSA carbon crank. I may have a chance on cheap new SRAM Rival shifters and derailleurs which I would swap in for the 5700 currently fitted. As pictured weights 16.6lbs, but should be able to get it down to nearer 15lbs with Rival and lighter post and bars.

[Edit: now with SRAM Rival Groupset, Praxis Rings, Zipp Service Course finishing kit and silver chain]

I've had it for a few days, put a beefier wheel set on it (I'm a bigger guy) and I've really enjoyed it. I use it was a commuter during the week (16 each way) and for enjoyment on the weekend. Was hesitant to spend $2000 on an Ultegra, carbon bike but the last bike I had lasted me 17 years and who knows how many miles. Hoping this one does the same.

Some tips to keep you from being eaten alive on the 'Hot r Not':

- Reduce the spacer stack
- Not a fan of the (comfort?) saddle
- Mismatched bottle cages

Oh, and Giant bikes don't get that much love there (though the OP of the 'Hot r Not' does have a Giant).

Thanks, I agree with the spacer height but It's pretty comfortable for me right now. And I wasnt aware a Fizik Aliante is considered a "comfort" seat? If it is, I want my money back

'Hot r Not' is more about looks than comfort.

The Aliante is a wide saddle (noticeable in the pic) and with a little more padding, geared towards comfort.

From the fi'zi:k website:
Aliante Carbon. Unprecedented comfort. Twin flex carbon - kevlar shell. Lightweight and comfortable. Ergonomic dip platform. Carbon braided rail: stronger & lighter.
And thus probably a "Not".

Still, Sagan races an Aliante...its not exactly the same saddle that's on grandma's grocery getter.
