Can anybody offer guidance as to the Suntour component lineup of the early 80s? There's some info scattered around here, but I'd love to see it all in one place for reference... The whole lineup would be terrific... I find the what-beats-what posts really interesting!

Thanks!

I'll take a crack at what I think I know. T-Mar, number6, and TheOtherGuy's word are all more reliable than mine though.

Since I only think I have a clue about derailleurs, I'll stick to them. Superbe - Cyclone - VG/VGT - AR... What elsewere they still making then?

The 1982 line-up, starting at the top; Superbe Pro, Superbe, Cyclone Mk II, Cyclone, BL, ARx, Vx, AR, Seven, Volante, Honor, GT, and Mighty Click. Most models came in at least two different different cage lengths, sometimes more. For instance, there was a Cyclone II (short cage) and Cyclone II GT (long cage).

Where did the Edge group of the late Eighties fit into the lineup? The crank seems like a Mavic copy. I have 2 bikes with them and they proved quite durable over the last 15 years. Unfortunatley they have those terrible Maillard hubs and not genuine Suntour.

The hierarchy in 1990 was: Superbe Pro, Sprint, GPX, Radius, Edge, Blaze, Vx, AC2000 and AC1000. I always considered Edge to be a low, mid-range group. The cranksets on Edge and Blaze are certainly reminescent of the Mavic. There were Edge hubsets available, in both freewheel and freehub versions.

Do they make forks/suspension? I could swear that the front fork on my Fuji Palisade hybrid was a Suntour.

What you have on your Palisade is probably an SR SunTour suspension fork. By 1990, SunTour was in financial difficulty and was bought by Mori Industries who already owned SR (Sakae Ringyo). Mori consolidated the two companies into SR SunTour. In 1995, Mori decided to get out of the bicycle components industry and sold SR SunTour to the mangement team. This was about the time that SR SunTour got into the production of suspension forks.
