Our fearless Mod PhotoJoe
Who was loved by most, feared by none and respected by all... had a long battle with cancer - THREE TIMES! First some weird hamstring cancer, then he got it in his back, which confined him to a wheel chair for the last year and after they got that and he was just starting to walk again, bam- bone cancer, and everywhere.
He finally threw his hands in the air and decided that he'd rather spend his last days in possession of his senses and with his family (in case it's not obvious, chemo is really hard on people). I can vouch for the effectiveness, I visited him a few weeks ago after he had moved back home and he was in great spirits and doing well.
Unfortunately, Cancer got the better of him today.
You know, it's weird - when you're a kid you make friends left and right but as you get older it gets harder and less frequent and I'm happy to report that I've made a few good ones through this very board and Tim was one of them.
Rest in peace, my friend.

RIP, PhotoJoe. I knew him from this forum and a few rides we did together. I last saw him at the Cool Breeze Century in August 2016, we rode different routes that day but had a nice chat.
You are so right, it gets harder to make friends as we get older. It was easy to call PJ a friend. He was blessed with an amazing wife and two daughters. I've never met them but following his fight with cancer this last year, what kept coming through was the strength of his family.

He was always the first one to make fun of himself so others would feel better about their own situation.
He welcomed me when I asked if I could join his clyde team and ride the Tour de Cure in Long Beach. He told me it was more a rag tag bunch of slow cyclists with himself being the slowest. And that was our first meeting and my longest ride till that time, a metric century.
After that we did a few assorted rides together including Cool Breeze, Tour de Palm Springs and his favorite rides which always ended at the beach in Carlsbad or Oceanside.
Even while battling cancer, he still wanted to ride. His passion for riding was infectious. And he spread his love of riding everywhere and to everyone he could.
I'll miss him. A lot.

Tim and I ride together that day on Cool Breeze in 2016 and I can vouch for his toughness and his never complain personality. He was hurting yet he made riding together fun as usual.
First time meeting him he instigated a virgin ride up GMR.
I will miss his humor. Not to mention his powers to organize a ride! If you posted on the thread you were INKED!
I’d love to see us organize a memorial ride of some sort to honor his memory doing what he loved

I'm sorry to see this. I never had the pleasure of meeting him in person (east coast/west coast thing) but from his interaction here and how many people speak highly of him, you can he was a great dude to know and call friend. I'll sure miss his presence here on the forums. Rest In Peace Tim.

I'm deeply sad to hear this, RIP my friend, you shall be missed by many including myself. As Trojanhorse mentioned it's hard to make friends as we get older, none the less we meet online and share a life's passion on for bikes. I've meet and rode with allot of really great people on this forum and he was one of them. He left that lasting impression with me the first time we rode up GMR together. Rest easy Tim

AH, the ol' GMR ride... those were fun. Not to mention @ahultin wife driving a DUELLY up GMR to keep tabs on all of us. @psalm, were you on that ride?
I see @CommuteCommando in the pic, he drove all the way up from San Diego to make that ride.
@jsigone rode his old planet X bike with the extra creaky BB... had his SLR with him on that mountainous ride and didn't even notice that he couldn't shift into his lowest gear. Yeah, he's still stronger than the rest of us!

I'm mixing and matching some names but I believe all of you rode with PhotoJoe at one time or another and can vouch for his genuine good nature. Who did I forget?
@CbadRider did at least one of the wounded warrior rides that PhotoJoe orchestrated...
I keep waffling between sadness for Tim and his family and a little bit of envy about a life well-lived.
Tim touched a lot of people in his abbreviated time on this planet but he did a lot in the time he was allotted.

Yes I was there, til this day my most memorable ride. Photojoe will be missed, only rode with him that one time and he truly made one feel comfortable and welcomed, instant likening to him. I am truly sad and will keep him and his family in my thoughts.

The photo of @ahultin and @CommuteCommando was first ride. Then there was the closed gate ride. And finally the actual ride to Village.
When I met Tim for for first time at our start point that first time he laughingly told me how he told Cupcake not to do what he was doing: “meet strangers he met on the internet” haha

Whoops, I forgot @Erwin8r too... I know he went with us a couple times. And @eja_ bottecchia did it with a standard crank!
It used to take Tim 4 bottles to get to the village... I guess he was sensitive to dehydration after his first bout with cancer. You can hear Tim and BeachGrad talking about those rocket launcher bottle holders at the beginning of the second video.

ahhhh the famous first pizza port ride, @tunavic keeps the pizza ride alive a few times a month.
The group started at Angels stadium and rode to Carlsbad for carbs and brew from Pizza Port (70 some miles) and take the train back up. I was training for BWR as usual and need more miles, so I rode from my house in Escondido to meet them in Laguna Beach, ride with them for 50 so miles and ride back home after my fill of beers and still able to ride a straight line
Tim is sporting the blue Wounded Warrior jersey we got for helping them Bike San Diego Bay.
