How to fix a tire blow out during a 100 mile bike ride
Yesterday I blew my tire out during my ride. The plan was to do a century. When it hit the pot hole and got the flat I was so bummed out. I thought the ride was over. And the I realized I can repair the sidewalk. Check out this video where I show how to get it done MacGyver style....

If you blew the tire by hitting a pot hole you were obviously going too fast. You need to slow down. Just kidding.

The key is finding a decent place to sit while you work, otherwise for me at least I can get rushed and that's when mistakes happen. I get nervous on a rear that needs major patching/booting. Seems like one bump too many and it's all over.

Fixed a blowout once with a folded dollar bill stuck in place. Lasted about 40 miles.

I always carry a spare tire. That means on every outdoor ride. When I get an ordinary flat, I change out both tire and tube: no need to fool around trying to find the hole. This simple thing would have saved the OP a lot of time and saves a great deal of time even in ordinary flat changes. I
carry the lightest tire that will work well. Of course I also carry 2 tubes, a patch kit, and a boot kit. Haven't used the boot kit since I started carrying the spare though.
I run enough pressure in my tires that they don't flat in an ordinary pothole, even on our tandem. That's how I know how much to use.
Sometimes things go wrong. A riding buddy once flatted 8 times, all from different objects, during a pass climb in the middle of the night.

Inspired me to order a package of TB-2 emergency boots today so I can add one to my flat kit. I've been meaning get some for a long time now to replace the Tyvek strips I currently carry.
