Being Canadian i have always wanted to have a Marinoni in the stable. This bike came up for sale locally out here on the wet coast which is fairly rare compared to Quebec or Ontario. The seller had no idea who Marinoni is,weird. I stole it. Its beautiful and a full 4cm to big for me.1985 Marinoni Special. I have a 62 cm Paramount, which I can ride comfortably. It was my dream bike at the time. Also, at the time, I was riding 58 cm frames. Upon getting used to that larger frame, I now have settled into 60 cm frames and will soon begin moving out the 58s.
The Paramount has a 60 mm stem, as do the two early Treks. It can be done.

Absolutely, swap that long stem for a shorter one. That would make a big difference.

Beautiful bike, If it was the one I lusted after, I’d make it work. I have 2 bikes that I’ve searched for, and found, that are at least 4cm too big by conventional standards, enjoy riding them anyway. Another I found was too small, didn’t enjoy that at all, got rid of it. Reminds me of my childhood, when my parents bought me a high quality bike, that I had to grow into. I was riding a Schwinn Racer, way to big for me around the neighborhood, while everyone else was riding appropriately sized Sears, and Monkey Ward bikes. I had the way better deal.

I love that bike, nice find! I’d buy it too. In my stable I have bikes ranging from 56cm to 62cm and I’ve found them all to be enjoyable with a few tweaks. I may not pick the smallest or tallest for multi-day rides or rides over a hundred miles or so, but for rides under 50 miles or just kickin about town, they are all fair game. Conventionally, I’m probably about a 58cm but I’m lucky to not have any limiting injuries and I’ve never been uncomfortable enough to care about “perfect” fit all that much. Congratulations!

Remove those dustcaps in the crankset, and the bike will reward you by looking even more badass.

Yesterday I bought the bike that I bought in 1984 and sold a few years later. Not the highest end Miele but I sure did and do like it. It's a pink Beta with Shimano non-index N600 EX groupset on it. Interestingly enough it has the older scalloped 600EX headset. I'm fortunate because i have the proper headset wrenches to fit it.
The brake levers, brake calipers and chainrings and the ancient Minoura water bottle cages I kept are very nearly the same bronze colour.
I contact cemented a piece of old tubular tire onto the inside of the clamp portion of a Zefal pump cup and when cured trimmed it to the shape of the clamp so the item fits on the top tube. The pump cup is sized to fit the seat tube.
Sort of a real dream bike for me and what memories.
