Should I buy this 1990 Trek 1420?
I'm looking for a bike to be used for casual riding, commuting, etc. I'm a little out of my element here (in regards to brand quality, not so much actual riding) as I haven't owned a bike since adolescence, but I plan on meeting up with the owner of this bike tomorrow to possibly purchase.
He's asking for $150. Does this look like a good deal? Is there anything I should look at or take note of before pulling the trigger?

Could be a good deal, unfortunately not knowing what you're doing it will be hard to determine how worn things are. If it hasn't been used much its a nice bike, good components though I don't care as much for downtube shifting, and easily worth the price. If the tires are original it hasn't been used much and you will need to replace those even if they seem good. If the bike is well used you might need to upgrade some parts, it'll make the bike an ok value. 105 is a good component group and that was a decent bike in its time.

It looks nice and clean so $150 seems like an OK deal. It looks like a smallish frame though how tall are you?

Google bike sizing and bike inseam. Your pant inseam is not your bike inseam. Bike is likely too small for you, but sizing over the internet is something I have never gotten very good at.

Yeah I did that to get an idea of what size I was looking for. My inseam is roughly 28.5"

Just from the pictures this bike looks like it has not been ridden very much. Center mold line on the tires still there (could just be new tires), very little sign of brake pad or rim wear, not beat up, white bar tape that doesn't look dirty. 105 group set is decent.For $150, if it fits I would buy it. I think they could ask more.

good starter bike, classic&vintage, Trek with 105, price reasonable at $150 (firm or obo?) , the key question is the test ride, adjust the seat to your liking and do a few circles, slow and fast, turning, gear changing, breaking, must feel right, and try not to get too excited, keep cool and rational, good luck

He's including a tri-bar so I may ask him to knock off $20 to not include it since I don't really have any plans to use it. Though I guess I should ask, are those tri-bars one-size-fits-all? I don't want to look like an idiot if he's including it since he will no longer be able to use it lol

Looks like spd pedals (using a phone so small photos, forgive me if I'm wrong).
If so you'll need shoes with cleats or have to replace pedals if you just want flats. If you've never worn cleats they are a very easy learning curve but you should wear the correct shoes as riding on those pedals with regular shoes isn't as comfortable
