Which brake hoods for 1987 Trek 520?
Of the options on the VO site, which will work and which won't? The current ones say Shimano on them. Catalog says "z-326" levers.

At this point in time, it might just be the non-aero hoods that are actually available to purchase.

Wasn't there just a recent (or recently de-zombie-fied) thread about brake hoods and compatibility? Maybe the pics / info there will shed some light.

Shimano generally did not concern themselves with making levers that were compatible with other brands. In addition to that, they changed their product line constantly. Finding exact replacement hoods is unlikely. IIRC they did retreat from that slightly towards the end of the 80s. Maybe you'll get lucky.
There is probably a hood that is close enough. Just from looking at the pictures I'd guess a Campagnolo style hood would be a reasonable fit. Two of those links to VO should be compatible. I'd probably try the Dia Compe anatomic first. Those are Modolo knock offs, and Modolo and Campy hoods were interchangeable BITD. No guarantees though. https://velo-orange.com/collections/...4-brake-levers

Would non-aero Shimano 600 hoods fit? If so, Reciclone in Spain make repros: https://www.reciclone.com/shop/en/fr...iversales.html

I have bought and used the Mafac reproduction hoods in both amber and black. Good quality, excellent fit and good service. I reviewed them here: https://bertinclassiccycles.wordpres...oods-a-review/

I’d just use good ol’ Canecreek for 10 bucks. Just got a tan pair for my Trek 720. They’re cheap, last well, and look just fine.

^^^ Depends on the shape of the OP's brakes. Those Cane Creek hoods fit great on earlier '80s levers, but the later Shimano levers had a taper, and weren't as "long" front to back. Hard to tell from the catalog photo which would be the better fit for the OP

I'd also recommend Dia Compe 202 hoods. Best looking / available non-aero option I know of... not 100% sure they'll fit your levers though for $12 maybe worth a try?
