This one (and the Volpe) are in my backyard.

I thought hard on the Stumpy, but it's too small for me and I don't need more project bikes that don't fit.

make / manufacturer: Columbia
model name / number: Hi Wheel

This Columbia Hi Wheel Bicycle was just released from a large private collection that was on displayed indoors among some beautiful cars, signs and collectible items. many of these items will also be for sale in the near future. This rare Bike is in relatively good condition, very complete, has neck badge. The penny-farthing, also known as a high wheel, high wheeler and ordinary, is a type of bicycle with a large front wheel and a much smaller rear wheel. Popular after the boneshaker until the development of the safety bicycle in the 1880s. It was the first machine to be called a "bicycle". The name "penny-farthing" is now the most common, it was probably not used until the machines were nearly outdated; the first recorded print reference is from 1891 in Bicycling News. For most of their reign, they were simply known as "bicycles". In the late 1890s, the name "ordinary" began to be used, to distinguish them from the emerging safety bicycles; this term and "hi-wheel" (and variants) are preferred by many modern enthusiasts. In 1869, Eugène Meyer, a Frenchman, invented the high-wheeler bicycle design and fashioned the wire-spoke tension wheel. Around 1870, English inventor James Starley, described as the father of the bicycle industry, and others, began producing bicycles based on the French boneshaker but with front wheels of increasing size, because larger front wheels, up to 1.5 m (60 in) in diameter, enabled higher speeds on bicycles limited to direct drive. In 1878, Albert Pope began manufacturing the Columbia bicycle outside of Boston. Please call J.P for more info. at 5 3 0 - 9 1 9 - 9 4 5 6 , thank you.

SOMEBODY BUY THIS!!! Wilmington NC Ironman Master $100 Green/Pink

ok, I neeeeeed/want this but am in NOVA/DC. If you don’t buy it for yourself, buy it for me and help me figure out the 700 mile logistics for pennies ;-)!

https://wilmington.craigslist.org/bi...094139690.html

It has one brand new tire, the other is in good condition. It needs a new seat and maybe new wrap on the aerobars. Shimano parts - high quality. It's a good road bike, very strong and well made!
54cm frame. Asking $100.

(the photos show the tires deflated, but they have since been fully inflated).

I have 4 Brooks (brown and black ones) but not a honey coloured one. I decided to hold out in favour of a local online auction for a bike but now I'm regretting. Greed is indeed a terrible thing.

this is a very nice deal. I have the same bike and paid $120 and totally stole it at that. an early 80s MTB is gold these days for copper prices. they can do anything (except being a mountain bike) - and better than newer expensive offerings-

i found mine in a thrift/recycle store. CL list for these is rare at reasonable prices, so you got to go hunting.. even in the bike mecca of SF bay area.
