Medici Pro Strada 1984

I think 84. Just rebuilt the bike for it's first time.
There are one or two chips in the paint.
Not ridden very much. Everything in good shape, replaced freewheel and chain....
More pics in a couple days when I take it out..

I have one, with no frame chrome though.
A nice bike.
Very undervalued.

Thanks.
It's missing one of the water bottles.
Came with a 6 speed 13-15-17-19-21-23
I changed to 7 speed 13-14-15-17-19-21-24
Other than that I tried to keep it as it would come brand new.
I think it's Victory crank (116 BCD) and brakes.
Suzue Hubs. New stem and seat.
Could be a good DailyDriver, if I dare.

I have a mid 80's Medici. I had it repainted by Cycle Art. Fire engine red with yellow decals. It is gorgeous. I was able to find the black Medici pantographed stem and correct bars as a set. I equipped it with mostly period correct Campy, the exception being the brakes and pedals. I ride the bike as my main bike. It rides very nice. Did a hilly ride today. Sorry no pics. I need a new camera.

A Medici reprinted by Jim Cunningham... Now that is a combo I would not expect!

Because of the Masi connection?

My boss at Pulse~LINK had a Medici from about that era, with criterium gearing: 53-42 / 13-14-15-16-18-20. 24T is a LOT easier on the knees, although I find I really need 26T with a 42T chainring for the steepest hills I encounter.

Yes, Jim had some bad experiences with Medici, according to what I have read. Being the professional that he is, he approached it with the same attention he would any other classic bike. He, Susan and the staff are dedicated to excellence. He never made a negative comment to me about Medici. I only know about his feelings through what I have read, written long before he worked on my bike.

I had and raced on an older used pro-strada in the early 1990's, had this identical (red) paint job, chrome and decals. What I mostly remember about it was that the points of the lugs were oddly mis-aligned. The frame itself was strait but the lugwork was just uncharacteristically sloppy looking. It was a very solid riding bike but it was also really heavy, a 62cm frame that was likely built with SP tubing (or thicker). It served me well, I won a fair number of cat 3 races on it. I was out just riding around one day when it suddenly started handling very weird and I discovered that the downtube had cracked in half, just beyond the headtube lug tip.

Gorgeous. Looking forward to a few more pics
Medici has always held a fascination for me.
Not sure why, never ridden one.
Had hoped to ride DD's, but a bit small.

I think even Mike Howard admitted that at one point it was just a job, the bike religion had faded away.

That mentioned he did return to building later. If I recall correctly it was a run of up to 25 for the 35th anniversary of Wizard.

Okay, I'll bite - whazzup with the scissors?

Nice looking bike, BTW. Glad to hear it rides well and makes you smile. All C&V bikes should be so lucky as to have an owner who truly appreciates them.

Absolutely beautiful bike. It makes me want to sell some of my modern bikes and get a vintage instead

I had a green pro strada a few months ago to fund another build. It was just a hair too tall otherwise I would of kept it. Very nice and get some miles on that beaut.

Hearing stuff here and there, over the years, can't folks just let it go? Some kind of hyper-competitiveness maybe?

You're right, bikingshearer, it's sad to see certain of those guys appearing to be trying to put each other in a bad light.

The scissors graphic comes across as a cheap attempt at humor. There's nothing funny about it imo.
