Historic District bicycle racks

Does anyone know of bike racks which have been found appropriate for installation in historic districts? I know that each has its own set of standards, I'm just looking for some ideas in general.

I've seen cast iron versions of this style that look nice in old towns.

Our city put in similar racks.

The only problem was, most people didn't realize what they were. So now we're going with the old standby.

Of course if bike parking wasn't as rare as hen's teeth, perhaps folks would know what it is for.

The only places near me with any kind of bike rack, are the city, and county government office buildings.

Downtown we have a few of these racks with a retro hitching post look. The posts are a bit too big around so make locking a chore with mini U-locks, though, so no more will be put in.

Shipping container as covered parking is GREAT! Not exactly the retro look the OP is going for I think but really cool!

Have you ever seen car parking that was appropriate for a historic district? I haven't. So I don't know why bike racks should have to be.

We still have olde horse drawn carriage parking accouterments in parts of our old town. (steel rings in the curbs)

Most of the automobile parking ain't very retro, tho.

The street lights are very retro-looking, even the ones installed within the past 10 years.

a cousin took the pic. he's a ham (amateur radio operator, as am i) and took it for the radio angle. doesn't ride.
i had this posted on another thread. glad to know it was worth spreading around!

we have hitching posts in old town. will score a couple of pics. i didn't sooner 'cause i see them as for horses or llamas, but i have used them for my bike.

ok, here's one and some lockers. the lockers are for the 'advocacy ' part. i s'pose they could be painted like large wooden crates, or have wood put around them to keep with the atmosphere.

Isn't this design easily defeated if the ring isn't properly attached to the post? Put a rod or 2 by 4 in there and just pull.
