Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

BGroup ride this a.m. To paraphrase Bob Dylan,

Business men, they drink my wine.
Fat men clean my clock.

Well, not that fat, but I really should go uphill faster than I do, scrawny as I am.

Did a short ride today due to humidity and pollen count which is high. Recovering with a post-ride macchiato.

Second night back in the hammock I woke up bright eyed at 03:30. At 5 I gave in and made coffee and was asleep by 6. Re-awoke at 7:30, already too late to walk dogs and then ride. To paraphrase Vonnegut, So it goes.

I've been finding, of late, that when my thoughts won't let me go back to sleep, an infusion of coffee into the system releases the thoughts and allows sleep. I've been using this technique for years, for naps, but never made the connection to early mornings.

Oh ok you’re looking at the hardware side of PCs, I was more of a software guy, except way back when I strung up interfaces for minis (bigger than PCs but smaller than mainframes).

Hey all remember me? I’ve been pondering the changeover from Campy 11 speed mechanical to an electronic system. Any experience among this esteemed group of which gruppo to purchase or indeed, if a purchase is even worth it?

I quizzed Ivan yesterday and he passed. He was able to show me where his belly button and feet were.

Once something becomes easily available I rapidly lose interest.

Good to see you. In a recent thread, we (well, mostly me) were wondering if you have a Ti bike in the rotation.

As far as electronic... if you can swing it, swing it.

Ended up doing about 65 miles with the (small) group. Fast Johnny showed up and set a punishing pace, at times. I'm sure that I put in more work than if I would have done the century. Wind was horrendous at times, but that was mostly on the way out.

I remember you. Nice of you to pop in. How's life?

I can't comment on your question specifically, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Hey @MoAlpha, did you see my cramp posting earlier? I am confident that the cramps I get periodically (including yesterday) are what they classify as "muscle fatigue" cramps. I kinda DON'T think they are an electrolyte or hydration problem, as I have had hotter rides, longer rides, and borderline dehydration rides with NO cramps. These are cramps that come on several hours into a HARD ride. But once they hit, I have a tough time continuing to ride, even at a reduced effort. I know some studies say this is not really a "muscle" problem per se but a nerve issue, and the latest treatments/elixirs are targeted towards certain semi-caustic agents that cause a reflex response to the motor neurons. I have not tried anything and would prefer to PREVENT the cramps, but treatment is also a consideration.

Any thoughts?
