Is this GT worth pursuing?
This GT Outpost Trail ticks a number of boxes; it's a GT, it's aluminum, it's a step through, it's nearby. Just not sure of the age or where it stood in GT's lineup. Thanks for any help.

Wait till the covid craze is over to buy the step thru bike you want for when you are older. I think I remember you say that is what bike you are looking for.
Pre covid, I'd expect to see a bike like this for ~$50. The price of $150 is probably the current market, but I'd expect to see it sell around $120. The outpost was not a higher end model, but can't see the parts well enough to see what is on it.
Personally, I'd pass, but I'm picky.

It's steel, not aluminum. Ad copy is notoriously unreliable. Here you can see some rust on the chain stay.
Anything that was offered as a step-through is going to be low on the model hierarchy. I think this was a '96 and as such, had an MSRP of $270. The Altus crank was probably replaced under warranty (product recall), and that could have been when the brake and shift levers were also replaced (upgraded).
Still, this is a $50 bike, not $150. Keep looking!

Thanks, all. Yeah, my bad about the material; I was guessing based on size of the tubes, then finally noticed the rust on the seat stay. The search goes on!
PS Stoopid husband not only found a gorgeous '80s Stumpy in excellent condition, and a beautiful '80s Allez also in excellent shape, but he just bought a perfect Soma Double Cross in very good shape, just needs some tweaks, and it came with a Jones Loop Bar. The envy, it burns! {sigh}

Is it a competition in your household to buy the best or have the most bikes? Just wait for the nicer stuff, they were easier to find pre covid but they are out there.

Not a competition, but all the nice stuff is in his size. Not a lot of 17" steel, at least not here. Not that I need more bikes, but a girl likes to at least look!

Here is an example. 80% of the time, bikes like this are in medium.
https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/bik/d/sunland-gary-fisher-mountain-bike/7299056053.html
Edit: Even though the ad is up, the fisher sold. There are significantly more flippers locally since covid so I expect to see it again in a few days.
