I am getting email notifications of thread postings that contain links to beta.bikeforums.net instead of www.bikeforums.net. If I click on those links I get prompted to log in with user name and password.

I presume this is from testing the new version on perhaps a different server, correct?

Software update........ugh

For me, BF now loads so slowly I often just quit waiting for pages to load I give up and go elsewhere. For me, I cringe at software updates as they almost always make sites more difficult to use.

Um, the 'update' hasn't gone live yet...

Clear your cache, run scans, download Chicken Soup for the CPU? What are you using?

I thought I'd poke around the "beta" site a bit.

It does have a bit of a harsher look to it. But I do kind of like the black and white and high contrast.

Improved:
  • Extended ASCII characters (degree symbol, special quotes, etc) not crashing the editor preview

BUGS:
  • Text based emoticons not showing up in the editor. : bike: : bike2: etc
  • : foo: emoticon, does it mean anything?
  • Manage Attachments from advanced editor, still does not give access to old attachments.
  • No uploading of GIFS

I tried the demo and the first thing I did when I got there was hit the "new posts" link. I immediately noticed that most of the content was missing. I figured this was because it was a demo.

Thanks for the bug reports. So just to make sure, all the bugs you listed were actions that you could perform before the update?

What I mean is are these actions that you know to have been possible on the site before and now can't perform on the beta?

  1. Extended ASCII. Now working in Beta.
This had worked several months ago, but now causes the advanced editor to give a blank screen with the current system (pre-upgrade)
  2. Text emoticons : bike:, etc, work with the current system, but don't appear to be viewable with the beta editor.
  3. : foo: showed up in emoticons with the current system (pre-upgrade) a couple of months ago. I'm not quite sure what it represents, or if there was something before it.
  4. Uploading GIFS worked previously. They were blocked with an upgrade a month or so ago.
  5. Managing old attachments. (advanced editor).
Worked several months ago, but was changed with the upgrade a month or two ago.

This is what the ManageAttachments screen looked like previously.

In the current version, the difference between the old ManageAttachments and the current ManageAttachments is:

Current ManageAttachments
https://www.bikeforums.net/newattachment.php?values[t]=xxxxxxx&contenttypeid=1&poststarttime=yyyyyyyyyy&posthash=zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Previous ManageAttachments
https://www.bikeforums.net/newattachment.php?do=assetmanager&values[t]=xxxxxxx&contenttypeid=1&poststarttime=yyyyyyyyyy&posthash=zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz&insertinline=1
The ManageAttachment screen giving access to the old attachments doesn't seem to work at all under the Beta version.

I see the latest news and I stand corrected. I've been huffing and puffing on my bike for the last three hours, think I'll take a nap soon.

Omg, the bug that deletes posts when you click edit on Android mobile theme is fixed. Thanks.

Overall a huge improvement on mobile usability. Roll it out already!

Since I'm not going to log in to an insecure site, some platform details or screen shots would be nice.

Are we still using vB or something else?

But, you are posting this reply - meaning that you logged in without HTTPS on Bikeforums.net already.

No, I'm not using beta. I don't log in to an insecure server. IE warns me of this with the beta email updates I never subscribed to. And if that weren't so I would be logging in from the site instead of IE. For that matter, I receive my normal updates on Sunday or so, once a week.

And PITY. I was really hoping for XenForo. The CABE is so much better for converting.

Speak for yourself. On my Windows 10 Mobile phone, I can't log in, because the screen loses the second box when I bring up the onscreen keyboard, meaning the two boxes for username & password. I fully realize this won't be your top priority, lol, just thought it worth mentioning. BTW, thanks for the upgrade.

I realize that we're aiming for as close to full compatibility as we can get with this but even with no usage of mobile devices I'd rather use Android, not a huge fan of Windows 10 and it's supposed cross-device capabilities...and their Mail is almost as much of a mess as the new browser. Still using and fighting to keep 7.

The reason you can't log in, does it have to do with the security issue of the insecure server login for the demo?

When we were the test subjects for the then new vB4 there were a lot of glitches to iron out, if you would look for Tom's sticky on the subject. This time around I'm letting you all work out the beta and it would have to be much better than Windows 10. It's been a very rough month or I'd offer more peer support...heat got me bad yesterday.

They can't log in because the onscreen keyboard blocks the password field.

Did scan, deleted cache, no change... What isChicken Soup for the CPU? All I found were food recipes and book titles. Using IE

I don't have any "speed"issues on 2 other bike related sites I frequent.
