Rear bike back weight

Does the rear rack add a lot of weight to a hybrid?

Weigh the rack you want to get, or look it up and you have your answer.

The bike came with one mounted. I have been thinking about whether or not I should remove it

It all depends upon the rack material and how much rack is present...

Let's say you weigh 150.. 60% of your weight is on the back wheel. The rack weighs a pound. That's about 1.1 % of the total weight on the back wheel.

Less than you might think. Any decent rack from a top tier brand will seem remarkably light if you hold one in your hand at the LBS. That said, you are either using it or you arnt. If you arnt, then there really is no point in having it there regardless of how much or little it weighs.

On a hybrid, even a road bike used for day touring, a basic rack is remarkably functional.

Eh? This is a hybrid. Just keep it. If you were looking to shave every last gram of weight off your bike, you should have bought a road bike.

A rack's weight is minimal if you use it... However, with any bicycle component, if it isn't used I remove it.

I agree with themishmosh that they are usually easy to remove and mount, so mounting when needed is an option... but for me, I almost always carry a trunk bag with my usual "just in case" supplies. Multi-tool, spare tube, patch kit, first aid kit, emergency food, epi-pens, rain ponchos... I usually have everything I might need.
