Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm here to put a firm vote against that stupid catlike helmet. Just don't get that one. I'm offended by that lame helmet.

That one that DDF posted is really cool looking, but I realize I'm in the minority on that.

Just get the Giro because it looks cool, and it doesn't make you look like a total poser noob.

I know it's probably no worse than any other helmet as far as this thought goes, but the Catlikes make me think of of a home for wayward bees.

I kinda like that carbon weave, though...

i got the AEON for $150, i upgraded from a $30 giro from dick's. i want to say it isnt a huge improvement but when i think about it, its lighter, more comfortable, and vents better so i guess it is. theres no way its worth $250 under any circumstances. it really bugs me that i can see the front of it at all times. why does it stick out so far from my forehead? thats dumb, i kinda need to see through that blindspot when my head is down. if i could do it all over again, i probably wouldnt spend $150 on it, its isnt $120 better than the cheap one i started with.

Specialized Prevail?

I was debating on the Aeon or the Prevail at my LBS and they talked me into the Prevail saying that it is both cooler (in terms of airflow) and has passed more safety tests than the Aeon. Sucks because they have the Aeon and had to order the Prevail (in the color I want) and it hasn't come in yet. Come on Specialized ship my helmet.

Catlike lids has always had a certain appeal to me. And if I was bald, I'd absolutely have to have one for the tan lines. So awesome.

I can say that for the 180 I spent on my helmet, I can't see it at all over my brow, and i barely notice it there ever. I also upgraded from a giro from Dicks as seen in the pics and the giro never felt right...the Odin really form fits my head...perfectly shaped for my head...not sure about others but I totally would spend the money again if I dropped and cracked it today

at the shop when i bought my bike. i asked if they would price match competitive cyclists's sale tehy had on the ionos for $150. he said he would so we started looking through what they had and were out of the color i wanted in my size so he just gave me the aeon instead.

my buddy got that specialized prevail and LOVES it but i personally couldn't wear a helmet that is that damn ugly. it just outright looks awful.

Have the Catlike (along with several Limar 105's and an LG), best warm weather helmet I've worn (better than the Specialized) and very comfortable. It sits a bit lower than the Giro so it may provide a bit more protection also. Thor liked his.

My suggestion would be to try both on and see which fits the shape of your dome. If they are close and you ride in hotter weather go Catlike.

I'm hopeful for the Aeon. I just ordered (and returned) an Ionos to replace the Atmos that's wearing a bit thin. Tried it for one ride, and had to send it back because it's noticeably heavier than the atmos (by 40gms), and bigger if that's possible. I felt more weight on my neck, not a good thing.

Let us know what you decide, and how you like it.

I'd go Catlike Plus. It fits my head better than anything else I've tried. Light & cool in Summer.

I also have the Catlike. It keeps my head cool in the AZ summer heat.

If you're looking for opinions on the "cool" factor you'll have to form your own opinion.

I thought about the Catlike and got the Aeon. You can find deals on the Aeon but not on the Catlike.

So now we have a match: Cervelo Test Team with its Catlike helmets back in 2009 and 2010. Fugly and fugly.

This is AWESOME! Well... it looks like I'm leaning towards the Aeon. I went into my LBS and tried one on. It's pretty comfortable.

So much hate for the catlike!

No one mentioned any Lazer helmets... any reason why?

Its protrusion is so that it minimizes frontal crashing. When you go face first, it gives a little bit of clearance to not let you land into the pavement. Doing this is safer than using a plastic viser because its part of the helmet and its not plastic that will shatter under that kind of impact. Something designed like this could have saved the life of Wouter Weylandt as his face impacted the road this year.

Somehow Giro thought of this when other companies (and Giro) were making more and more minimal helmets to sacrifice weight. It's just Giro that did this first without adding weight and possibly adding aerodynamics..
