Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This is true! Neither will Titanium. My oldest bike I purchased in 84 is steel, and I rode it rain, not a spot of rust anywhere and it was never internally treated; the same is true with my other six 1980's vintage bikes. Sheldon Brown road a steel bike built in 1918 and he never worried about the rust either. Don't get me wrong, I've taken care of them too, if a scratch penetrated the paint and exposed the metal I would use touch up paint to cover the metal. But my wife has a 87 Giant Rincon (included in the six 80's count) that we both used for camping and off road and it's pretty well scratched up, rained on, left outside in all sorts of weather, and I never touched it up and I still don't have any rust on it.

I had a 78 Schwinn Traveler I bought back in 78 when I lived in Santa Barbara California for the sole purpose of riding it in the wet sands of the beaches, which meant ocean salt spray and sometimes lots of it! I rode that bike for that purpose for about 15 years; the AL components got corroded and I was going to restore in 2004 but when I removed the bottom bracket there was some mild rust flakes inside especially around the junction of where the stays and frame tubes came into the bottom bracket shell, so I decided not to bother with restoring it. But that's a bike that I didn't take real good care of, I would rinse it off when I got home from a good ocean bathing, but that's all I would do to it, no paint touch up either. And that bike was left outside all day and all night in all sorts of weather.

So I guess what I'm saying is that if a steel bike can last 100 years I don't think I would care after that period of time!!

Changed out the Ultegra shifters for Campy Chorus and the 42cm Al bars for 44cm CF, otherwise stock. With this ride I won't be mistaken for a really old roadie wannabe.

And that jacket does a damn good job. Better looking, better performing and cheaper than the comparable Castelli jacket in my opinion.

All my bibs are showing signs of wear so decided it was time to replace them. Picked up 4 pairs of these.
