I am, finally, upgrading or originating my Legnano Grand Premio. This comment above, taken from another thread, piqued my interest and I do mean Piqued. Does anyone know about this stencil process or have pictures of the templates used to create the art work on the down tube of my Legnano..?

Somehow I pictured this being done with cardboard stencils that would get used for a period of time and then tossed. But a metal stencil makes perfect sense. My brother and I have discussed how an artist would re-create a stencil and I've thought about doing it using my 1954 Tipo Roma just to have it available. I don't plan to refinish mine unless it were to get damaged. I wonder if all the patterns are identical?

I recently picked up a "paint challenged" Gran Premio following Eroica. The paint is rough, but the stenciled logo is bright and clear. Right now it's a "patina" bike, but I like nice shiny painted bikes as much as anybody. I thought about getting a nice photo of the existing logo and having a decal made that would more closely match the original. The repros I've seen are too red, or the look just isn't right. Have you thought about masking the logo, and painting around it? Yours looks pretty good, at least from this side. The frame paint is as thin as water, but the stencils are painted to outlast the bike. The fine line pin stripes look harder to do than the logo to me.
