Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It is tempting but having to do an international return if it doesn't fit would be a hassle. Do the sizes run small like most cycling gear? I just had to return some Pactimo jerseys and base layers today because they were way too tight even though I up-sized one size larger than I normally wear.

I believe you are talking about the Resistance jacket which is a great, packable, water resistant shell. It is also on sale.

7Mesh Resistance Jacket - $135
https://7mesh.com/mens-resistance-jacket

The Strategy jacket however, is a deep winter garment with targeted insulation for below freezing temperatures. I wear it down into the teens farenheit.

Again, the Strategy jacket is a deep winter jacket for below freezing temperatures.

See my post above for the Resistance jacket which is a rain shell.

Both are American sized. I did not have to size up. I am 5' 10" and 180 lb. A size L Strategy jacket fits a little loose actually.

Thanks Timothy.

I was looking for a heavier jacket for cold days since I already have a wind shell which works fine for cool days. The Strategy jacket my be a little heavier than I need though since I don't see myself riding if the the temp. is below freezing. The 30's would be my absolute low limit with more likely the 40's. Still, it looks like a nice jacket. It looks like Wiggle makes returns pretty easy from the US through USPS but it is about $20.

I'm 6' 0" about 190 with a 42" chest so I'm a bit between L & XL. I'd probably try an XL since I don't want my jacket to be tight and binding. Not really a fan of super tight fitting tops and jerseys.

I get the names messed up

Resistance, Renegade... Synergy, Strategy... Oro, Outflow... Calighan, Corsa...

I guess the names are better than what Assos comes up with.

Clever Training has additional 25% off a bunch of sunglasses with code SEESAVINGS. I just ordered a pair of Oakley Radar EV Advancer in Matte Black/Prizm Trail lens for $116 before tax. Have been meaning to get the Prizm Trail lens for my Radar EV frame, but that discount is kind of amazing for a 2019 model, plus the lenses are interchangeable between those two frames.

Also today is the last day to use their 15 free VIP points from their VIP customer appreciation month.

Rolf Prima Wheels...

If anyone is in the market for wheels, promo code ATD.18 knocks 25% off your order at rolfprima.com. A friend of mine picked up a set of Ares3 wheels (list $1399) for $480 shipped.

Are these shoes any good? I am tempted to upgrade from my cheap Shimano RS064 shoes.

I hope so. I have the similarly built Giro ACCs which are full shoelace and like them a lot. BTW the ACCs are on sale as well at a great price on the same site... for whatever reason though, they've skipped my size in their stock for any color (ie. Euro 49) so didn't consider.

Great prices on those new Garmins, but what is the warranty like for out-of-country purposes? The new 530 has tons of button problems, would hate to get a defective one and not be covered by a warranty. The 830 does not have that problem.

You should be clear to buy a 530 by now (at least as far as button problems go). They fixed that after the first few weeks of production I think.

As for other bugs, well, it's Garmin. I just received a warranty 530 because my original one won't stop disconnecting randomly from my phone. We'll see if the new one is better.

You would need to load the correct maps if you bought from out of country, but it's simple to do. DC Rainmaker has instructions.

PDW Fenders at REI

REI has the Gunmetal Grey full metal fenders from Portland Design Works for $59.93. The Black and Chrome are still at the regular price but you won't find this price ($59.93) anywhere. I'm not even sure why they lowered them that much. I bought a pair and they are already on the bike.

I live down the street from one of their flagship stores and had been eyeing those, but I chose the chrome SKS longboards instead. Great price for the PDW.

Picked up an open box BB7 rotor + caliper for $30 at REI's in-store 'garage sale' this weekend. I don't actually have a bike to put it on, but it will be the first part for my next build and a backup for my current bike with BB7s.

Boyd Cycling

They're offering 20% off on a brand new set in exchange for your old pair of wheels. That 20% can add up pretty quick. That's at least $130 off a set of Altamonts. It appears they may be working with bike shops that are local to you so that you're not getting killed on shipping the wheels back to them.
