This doesn't have to be about beer although that is a favorite of the C&V crowd, there is wine and cider and Coffeeneuring season is almost upon us. I have a Sunday tradition of riding a short distance on Sunday to the weekly Farmers market and then spending time in the local pub. The Beer Junction. Pictures or it didn't happen...

Ha, coffeeneuring, I love it. 👍😁 I'm somewhere around 27 years without that demon alcohol, so it's mostly pop for me. And some coffee here & there. This is an Italian Trattoria dark roast, with only a sip missing.

I'm around 3/4 of the way across Golden Valley again here, and the bike is my new-to-me '88 Bianchi Forte. I know, my saddle is peeling, lol, but it's still a good saddle. 😁😉

These events are always fun, and you don't need to train for them because there is no need for speed and they have route that can be suitable for the older, and not so serious rider, as long as that rider has at least a few gears for the possible small hills that may or may not be on the ride course route. Physically fit riders, can easily handle the route on a single speed heavy vintage cruiser, but if that seems like too much effort, just ride something that you'll enjoy riding. These events generally have a longer route that the "serious cyclists" can scoot out with the other spandex lances imagining they are riding in a group battling for the yellow jersey in July in France.

Not to worry. That's just an excellent example of the skillful use of shallow depth-of-field from a large aperture to blur the background and make it less distracting to the main subject. We're perhaps just not used to the bike not being the main subject, is all. This is, for me, more difficult to do than the Photography 101 books make it seem, so well done!

Rules or no, I'm just a sucker for photos with bikes in them of mountains rising up above the desert so I'm glad you posted it.

Now this thread has potential! A buddy of mine and I jump on our hybrids every month or so and make the 15 trek up to Denton, TX on a bike path that parallels the commuter rail for breakfast tacos and cerveza. 30 miles round trip. Not C&V, but these types of rides are tailor made for a flat bar hybrid.

This was taken while enjoying an iced latte from the farmers market. The handlebar bag on the Trek makes little shopping trips down there real easy.

May have followed up my latte with a beer.

Thanks, it was tricky getting the mountains AND the coffee in the same frame. 😉 BTW, if you went in a straight line from where I was sitting (not down the road), you'd run into Spirit Mountain (on the other side of these ones, in Nevada). I've been feeling a need to go there, since I heard about it. 🤔

At the Cruise In Country Diner, I think this was the Rusty Truck.


Mid-ride drinks at the South Store Cafe. Everyone else probably had coffee, the hot chocolate beneath a mountain of whipped cream was mine.


Then there's this from the end of the original Neal Lerner Invitational. Some beverages were consumed there, but none of them were the Bombay IPA despite nearly everyone in the group trying to order it, because they were out that day.


I'm not sure I should speculate about what sort of elixir this man is formulating.

No pics, but I normally ride home to my favorite brewery...the one with four taps in the basement.

Unfortunately, the Alewife has been incredibly lazy as of late, so all the beer on tap is commercial craft stuff.

Ohhhhh....I should brew for my husband's birthday tomorrow.

Time and again, I've spent time in the days leading up to rides with a beer in my hand. It's how its done.

However, the days of closing down a local bar, then riding, for example, the Dairyland Dare, are over. Let's just say it hurts. I tend to cramp, a lot.

Slowing down seemed to help, or so I thought. Enter 2019's riding "season:"
A 700-mile month in May, capped by a relatively moderate Thunder Ridge...hmm, only one beer the night before, and not a lager, so left half full on the table.

June brought 1071 miles and no time to drink, just ride.

July was busy, and I avoided beer in the days prior to a 96-degree Ride Across Indiana, 170 miles. No doubt, it helped.

August brought the 225-mile Ride Across Wisconsin, and it being Wisconsin, beer was consumed the day before, with @hodgykins. Cramps showed up well before 100 miles, were unrelenting by 150, and had me outta there at 183.

So, I've avoided beer since, with 4 centuries and a 3-day riding stint in Wisconsin, 5 weeks in a row. No beer, no cramps.

Bring on the wine.

It is entirely possible you can no longer can handle the gluten in the beer. Experiments are a must (Alt Brew) . Sorry Robby, you know me, ride bikes, drink beer...awesome.
