I'm with you. I don't ride gravel, nor do I like riding gravel. It was like doing a crit at midnight, because the only thing I could be sure of, was following and trusting the wheel in front of me. I didn't get a flat or fall down, and they seemed to grip OK. Excel said they're good, and they likely know more than I do.

Me too, actually. I’m an outdoors person and for 6 months a year you can’t do **** outdoors in Phoenix.

Why? I’ve been semi-seriously considering Flagstaff.

I will say this and then I will leave it.
When I was getting back into road cycling, in the mid nineties, everybody was all caught up in the latest rave. All these 40 something's just HAD to have a fixie.
25 years later, all these 30 and 40 something's just HAVE to have a gravel bike, and a power meter, and a.....

But, the best argument(s) that I've heard for gravel in my area is there is virtually no traffic and the scenery is great.
Also, you left out disc brakes in your post. A guy on my club ride asked me yesterday when I was going to retire my 5 year old CF bike. When I asked why I would do that, he said that I was still running obsolete brakes.

I'm with you on the gravel bike thing. First off, we don't have a lot of gravel roads in my area and the ones that we do have are really poor. Even on a gravel-specific equipped bike, they're fairly dangerous for my fragile, bone-breakable body.
