My first electric bike. I had some minor problems when I first got it but worker those out okay. Now the throttle is broken. Not knowing a thing about electric bike motors etc., I called the company I bought it from. I bought a one year warranty when I got the bike. The tech support guy said 'sorry we sell the bike anymore and don't have throttle parts.' WTF? I said what was I supposed to do? Don't know was the answer.

He said he had a bike but couldn't take the throttle off for some reason about too many wires or going through frame of bike. In other words, Sorry can't they help me. I asked if he could cut the wires going to the throttle and send that to me. Then I could splice the wires with the other throttle. He said Ok so I'm waiting for that now. Hope that will work.

So I am here asking if the throttle could possibly replaced by some other brand or type. I guess it would also need to be spliced. Anyone on this BB technical enough to know if it's possible and easy enough for an amateur (me) to do? Thanks.

Normally, the throttle has three wires, positive, ground and a rheostat. You should be able to purchase a throttle and splice near the handlebar. Might have to play around with the wires if they're not color-coded "normally", positive, red; ground, black; rheostat, ?.

Yes, it looks exactly like that one. The place I bought it is sending the throttle with the wires cut so I'll have to splice them when I get it. Thanks for that pic and also that eBay store in case I need anything else.

I just finished a 941 mile bike camping tour and I went through 2 throttles. I am guessing that your throttle uses hall sensors. These are 3 wire sensors and most bikes use them from what I hear. But don't get them wet, or they break and you need a new one. most systems are based off of 5volts so if your system is 5 volts, has a hall sensor and uses 3 wires then you should be able to use other throttles and just swap the connector to match your controller.

I think you are mixing things up a little? Throttle uses 3 wires as 2old eloquently described above. Hall sensors are something entirely differernt, and a requirement (or not) of the controller and/or motor (not the throttle).

Don't see a new post button. Where is it?

I wanted to know if it was possible to disconnect the throttle and only use pedal assist. I'm in NYC and they tell me that throttle is illegal but pedal assist is not.

Sure, you can disconnect the throttle, but I don't know if that will do any good when the cop has decided he gonna write a ticket anyway and throw your bike into the truck. It's like saying, yes it has a motor, but I had the power turned off.

Maybe if you cut off the twisting part.

Know it's an older post, but did want to point out that Wuxing throttles, whether twist or thumb, use Hall sensors. They just rotate a magnet around a chip. They don't use silicone rubber on the chip terminals though. Put a drop of water there and the 5 volt power across the pins will corrode the terminals and kill the throttle,

Okay, got it. Take the throttle off completely and pedal assist will still work? Hate to have an electric bike that doesn't work.

Put the throttle in a handlebar bag or in a front rack bag. The system I have will not work without the throttle connected but you can run PAS only if you don't use it. Solution - bag it. If it's not on your bars and the cops can't see it, you shouldn't have any problems.

No, you still need that red start button that was in the picture. Find your own broken unit and cut off the rubber twister? Hate to wreck a good throttle.

Hey, I started this thread before my trip because I always had throttles blow out on me. I'm currently 2200 miles in on the Southern Tier and I have not had 1 throttle fail. I'm using Grins Phase Runner and the CA 3. The CA 3 has a power limit that the throttle can receive, I have mine set to 4.98v. This fixes and spike issues I had with the CA 2.

Been on the road for 2.5 months and it's all been working great.
