Castration-specific water bottle mounts

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Castration-specific water bottle mounts

I'm seeing new frames with water bottle mounts on the top tube.

Why is this not a nutty (nut-less) idea?

They're generally not for water bottles, but for bento-boxes.

At least...I hope you're not proposing cyclists get a snip-snip.

Do you know how much your little guys weigh? Just one is the difference between winning seven TdFs and being a regular fred rider.

This is the Road cycling forum, not the tri-bike forum.

Anyone caught drinking water from a straw is immediately banned.

Occasionally, we get bikes with bottle cages on the bottom side of the downtube but that is perfectly acceptable as Touring bikes ride on roads and they don't have aero bars.

Bottle cages mounted on the handle bars make perfect sense and will give your bike that truly old-school look for far less than cycling shoes with laces.

Given that these have been on gravel bikes, the question still applies somewhat.

On a TT rig sudden dismounts would be rare, but on dirt, do you really want something extra to land on there?

Oh, man, I feel like such a knob. What's a bento box and what does it have to do with bicycles? I've consulted google, the source of all wisdom, but I still don't know. WTF is a bento box?

edit: from web images it looks like it's either a plastic tray with sushi in it or another name for a Swanson TV dinner. It's more confusing than haiku.

It's to carry sushi on your bike ride.

Try to keep up!

There's a whole thing about carrying sushi on bikes? I suspect that this is some sort of joke, but I just don't get it.

Bike Friday puts a water bottle mount on their monotube. Does that count?

Yep that's it. There are some with holes for screws that go on your top tube so that you can eat a meal with a variety of items.

Is this sushi on bikes, is this a Grant Peterson thing? Do people have Rivendell stainless steel chopsticks wrapped with cotton tape bound with contrasting colored twine all held in place with 7 coats of orange shellac?

Fish on a Bike is definitely not a Grant P thing.

My touring bike, which is and for thirty-six years has been my main ride, has a cage on the bottom of the down tube as well as the top of the down tube and the seat tube. Just to be weird, it also has a mount on the back of the seat tube, but that's to hold the pump. Yes, there's that much clearance between the rear tire and the seat tube, even with a fender (it's muddy here). On self-supported double centuries in our coast hills, I may even put a cage on the handlebar and put another bottle in a pocket.

This (well, both of these) belong in the "most useless think you've taken on a ride" thread.
