Road bike vacation in California and Arizona
Hello,
is that ok when I write here?
Hello,
I'm going to spend three weeks in California and Arizona and travel through the state at the end of May.
For this time I would like to rent a road bike. The bike shops are extremely expensive if you can rent a road bike for three weeks.
For the price I can immediately buy a new bike, that's more than my salary for a month's work.
Do you possibly know someone where I can privately rent a bike that is not that expensive?
I also did that with someone in Colorado last year and both were very satisfied with it.
I need a size “S” or maximum M (20 to 21 Zoll or 50-55 cm)
I can repair everything myself on the bike and drive up to 10.000 km in the year road bike.
I have my own team that you can see on Facebook / radamring2019
I am also on Strava to find under "Andreas Grosspietsch" (Großpietsch)
Excuse for my english.
Maybe you know someone who can help me.
Thank you very much !!!
Andreas

So you are looking for a 52 cm? What's your ideal size? Can you name some road bike brands and a preferred frame material?
Used road bikes are so plentiful, I would suggest you simply buy something used for a couple hundred bucks. We can find you something ideal here, or maybe some member has something used in your size they'd let go cheap.
What city will you be starting from? Also, what kind of gearing and tires will you need?

We start and finish our trip in Los Angeles. The size 52 cm is perfect a little smaller or bigger i can still adjust appropriately. Here at home I drive Canyon, Cannondale and Raleigh but every other brand is ok too. Something with 8-12 speed gear shift it should be on 28 tires, width does not matter 18-28. To buy and then to resell I had already thought of the necessity.

Somebody in Colorado did it and his bike came through 5 states and was on Pikes Peak, the bike was in perfect shape when he got it back and should he come to Germany he will surely have a bike for the time, we are friends now

I have never used it but it's basically private parties looking to make a buck on their bikes - I bet you could negotiate something better for a longer term rental.

I thought you Teutonic ubermensch were supposed to be taller?
I wish you were taller Andrea, because alas all my bikes are 60+cm.
I have no bike for you, but if you make it to North San Diego County, I live in Carlsbad and I have some very lovely roads to show you.

Safe travels and have fun! (Also Saharizona stinks.)

Thanks @TrojanHorse!
@calamarichris good offer!
Every track that I've ridden in the western United States is good, mostly only short distances over 20, 30 or 40 miles.
We drive many miles with the SUV and in the evening or morning to relax I do a good bike ride, maybe even a day trip.
We will now be traveling in the San Diego, Tucson, Phoenix, LA area.

Hi Andreas,
My bikes are all 60cm, so I can't lend one that fits.
But if you want to ride to see the Hollywood sign and Griffith Observatory when in Los Angeles, I would be happy to ride with you.

Good Morning from Germany,
is 08:00 AM an 35 degree.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to find a private road bike to rent, even at TrojanHorse, most of the ads are outdated and the wheels are gone.
So if someone has a second road bike, please contact me.

Hello,
the road bike rental in the US is extremely expensive and goes well beyond what I deserve my work
and I can not find anyone who rent me a his own second bike
I once checked what it would cost if I take my bike in the plane with me.
That costs me 250, - Dollar all together.
But I would also pay the money if someone would rent me his road bike in size S or M.
To make it believable, for example, Strava users can find me at Strava under "Andreas Grosspietsch" (Germany) but also on Facebook or Facebook (radamring2019) Calibra Team

Unfortunately, I only own one bike and I am way taller than you.
I should be biking in Germany this summer and the rental prices are very high there as well.

Hello,
how tall are you and when and where are you in Germany?
Road bikes are not as cheap as in Mallorca but three weeks for 170, - € is ok, see the contact down, it costs only a small part of what it costs in the US.
Although I only have road bikes in size S, but my winter gravel bike is a bit bigger and I could fit road wheels.
Although this is an older bike with 2 x 10 Campagnolo circuit, I can also borrow you for free.

My flight is on the 23rd of May and so far I could not find anyone who has a road bike for me.
I got a bike case and tried how well that works but is too big and heavy with an additional suitcase.

Yes, I know that, I've been to Tucson this season, that's why I want to go back. Anyway, I drive only very early in the morning, maybe late in the evening. But thanks for the information

It might be a good idea to just buy something like this:
https://losangeles.craigslist.org/ws...888247769.html
and sell it when you leave... ?

Yes that's right, I had already considered. Could sell the example for 400, but selling is usually more time than just one or two days to complete. I've found a bike dealer in San Diego I'm negotiating with and he can offer me an older bike for a small price.

Using that craigslist bike as an example, maybe you could find someone local to pay $300 and you pay $300, then the bike is theirs when you leave...?
