Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

A dilemma.....looking for advice/opinions

I ride a Guru steel roadbike w/SRAM Red group...compact crank. I also have a Colnago Word Cup CX w/105 and disc brakes. My LBS has a CAAD 12 on sale for $1300. plus tax of 6.5% This is 105 w/rim brakes. As they sit, the Guru weighs 17 lb 12 oz and the Colnago 22 lbs. I'm trying to decide if I should buy this CAAD12 as a backup bike or get some tubeless Mavics put on the Colnago and maybe swap out the crank for a 50/34 and use it as the backup. The Colnago is an 11 sp. The Guru a 10 sp. I think I can mod the Colnago for around $1,000. Not sure if I'm missing some considerations. Advice?

New bike for $1300 or sink $1000 into an old bike? Easy choice. The Cannondale will be a lot lighter and pretty much race-ready ... the Colnago will be a great rainy-day, running errands type of bike with fatter tires .... great for recovery rides, and if you ever want a good gravel bike well, that is pretty much what it is.

I assume you were not planning to dell the Colnago either way, right? (https://glorycycles.com/colnago-worl...clocross-bike/)

The Colnago stays regardless. If I mod the Colnago it will run 25's. FWIW, it's 3 yrs. old and will be used as a roadie only if my Guru is not available. Your point is well taken. Thanks.
