The Future of Road Cycling
Today I took a break from riding and, together with my son, we visited the Petersen Auto Museum in Los Angeles. Among the expensive, exotic, and just plain weird cars in display, I came across these two bikes.
Is this the future?

That thing with the two wheels touching is a direct-drive Penny Farthing-style contraption? With disc brakes? How 'bout a Lefty Fork too while we're at it, why not?

Looks like both bikes are OSFA ( one size fits all).

If that's the best that museum can do then I think I won't even consider going to look at anything else! *yuck* I have better looking bicycles (and probably automobiles by those 'bicycle' examples).

I could see riding the aero road bike (were I flexible enough!), but the urban assault vehicle? YGTBSM. Kinda reminds me of all the concept cars that have come and gone.. cool, but mostly art.

Nope...this is just the mental ************ that happens when graphic designers who never ride bikes design bikes.

It's something interesting to think about. If you go back 50-70 years, cars look very different and have much more tech. But they still run on 4 wheels, have same seating set up and primarily run on gasoline engines - with some electric coming on board. Bikes very similar comparison.
The next 50 years will be interesting. I bet cars change much more than bikes - self driving, all electric, serious design changes especially if self drive...….
I think one will always have the option to pedal a bike vs being 100% electric. Maybe a new design for bikes comes out that doesn't rely on the double triangle - like the aero bike above.

The KM40 from Kestrel OTOH was rideable and made of materials of the future (carbon fiber) 30 years ago....and actually was fast.

Geez what a bunch of close minded fuddy duddy’s. They are concepts and more art than function. On purpose. There is a 100 plus year history in the auto business of concept cars with certain styling cues trickling down to production.

Kit doesn't match
I agree so far as the black one (more art than bike), but not the white one -- at least not completely. Sure, some artistic embellishments there, but looks like it would be functional for a flexible (really flexible) rider. Probably a fun exercise for the designer who has had to live by the UCI rules.
