What should I offer???
Hi, Everybody
I'm helping clean out a garage and basement for an elderly couple. Theres two bikes here that they will never ride. I'm especially interested in the old Free Spirit because I like vintage stuff. It's in (imo) great shape. I actually dont know much about older bikes though. I've spent far too long trying to search google and didnt learn much. I know it was a cheap Sears bike and isnt really worth much. It's a ten speed free spirit sunbird with shimano skylark rd. 26x1⅜ tires. Cotterd cranks and a lugged frame wich I think means it was made in Austria. I love to tinker and I think it would be a fun project. Any info on it such as year it was made and who made it? Also any thing to be aware of such as oddball parts or components impossible to replace? I'm
The free spirit I'm most interested in any suggestion on a price? Second bike is a Cannondale late 90s? It doesnt have a scratch on it. Price?

The Free Spirit is Korean made. Look for date codes on the components. Low end gas pipe boom era bike. A $50 bike even after you replace tires or whatever else (bearings, cables etc) needs work. Of course in this pandemic, might be worth more, don't know your market.
The Cannondale on the other hand was a pretty high end bike in it's day. If the Head shock is working it is worth something and all else would be a money maker parting out.

thanks for that link. A lot of really useful info. The head shock works flawlessly really smooth and the on and off switch works. It looks like the cannondale is selling for around $300. Here in rural PA I doubt it would bring that much. It has shimano deore lx hubs. Dedhed you were right a closer look I found a made in Korea sticker but cant find a date anywhere.

The free spirit is a pass. The V is the winner. I have a 400 in the basement.
And I bet the sellers knows the V has value.
V's are not easy sellers. But if the price is right........

I would put the Cannondale at about $400 looks like it has not been road much or at all. Note the seat post has not been trimmed which was usually done ounce the bike was sized for rider as it is very good chance it could bang the rear suspension triangle on a hard bump which could really mess up this nearly flawless bike.
