Atlus rapid fire shifters with Claris derailleur?
Hello everyone, I’ve been looking at shimano derailleurs for my 1992 Trek 750 multitrack. My bike has Shimano Atlus rapid fire shifters which are 7 speed. I’ve been trying to research if a shimano Claris 8 speed derailleur would work with my shifters. Or should I stay in the atlus group set?
Thanks.
Thanks.

So just to double check before I buy anything I can use Claris with my Altus shifters, correct?

we be rollin'
I read the only difference in pull ratios are with the front derailleur. Rear derailleurs have more flexibility even in the number of speeds. However, there are some tiny details over time in groupsets that may or may not make a difference. In any case, you should be able to use Tourney, Altus, Acera, Alivio etc. rear derailleur and I imagine even Claris will work. There are Shimano SL-M310 and SL-M315 shifters on eBay last time I looked. I've seen them paired on bikes with Acera M360 and even Altus M2000 rear derailleurs.
