Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

formal apology

It seems I owe the mod team a formal apology. Here it is.
For all the distress I've caused you over the years, I am deeply sorry.

@datlas beat me to it.
@seedsbelize: I've blocked a lot of annoying folks on BF. You're not one of those. I don't recall ever seeing a pattern of annoying posts from you.

Everyone can have a bad day. I was a mod for a decade on a couple of niche hobbyist sites and actually banned myself temporarily for a week or so a couple of times when I allowed my grumpiness from chronic pain to spill over onto the internets. Mostly I did it to make a hopefully amusing point to other forum users.

And, a couplafew years ago, I finally resigned after a decade when my health issues and life pressures were making it too difficult to be consistently civil and considerate to other folks. I resumed cycling again, got in better shape, felt better and happier, found a niche here on BF, and all is well.

All kinds of life stuff can steal our bliss -- pain, illness, financial stress, family worries, etc. My general rule of thumb is to regard the internets as the boxing gyms I used to haunt in my misspent youth. It's a place to hang out with friends who have the same interests, swap tall tales and helpful tips on conditioning and techniques, even puff out our chests a bit now and then, and do a little sparring. But the tricky bit is remembering that sparring isn't fighting and our favorite gyms and discussion forums aren't our personal battlegrounds. When we go overboard, it's time to take a break, make amends with our sparring partners, and come back the next day or week with a fresh attitude.

It’s a legacy thing. Many years ago you could buy a lifetime membership here. That’s it.

Something about going above and beyond the call of duty w/r/t the use of quotation marks.

Ah figured it out. It was a red star that got turned into an eagle to honor Sheldon Brown when he passed.

I said the exact same thing to my wife....she still divorced me. Now I get to go riding every day.
