These are pretty damn nice looking. Just wish I had a bike to put them on. Besides the monoplanars, I think these might take the cake from the '90s Campy catalog. Not that there was a lot of competition. I really like the beefiness of them. And that anodization. I guess they can go either aero or non. Velobase says the pads/shoes became rounded for '91 and '92.

Hoods are pretty decent, but how difficult are they to replace? Also assume kool-stop makes replacement pads for the shoes.

Ebay isn't much help on price. Would you sell the whole brakeset together? With the quick release only on the lever, seems reasonable to keep them as a set. I was thinking $100.

Crap. I have two of the pads switched around the wrong way.

No.
I like the Record Ti series. Lighter, nicer looking and work better.

But - that "record" looks like the decal on a 105 part. The Athena is just classic with its modest logo.

The first generation of Athena was Campagnolo's most beautiful groupset from the 1990s onwards. Nothing has matched it since.

To me they just look "Fat". But I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I agree- it was much harder for non experts to differentiate what group was what before , but I liked the simple engraved or stenciled Campy logo much better too

I'd prefer the word 'voluptuous'.

This looks like an armless dude laying pipe to the HT. Maybe he's using his 'bit" to drill holes for a badge to be screwed on. If you look at the first pic, the DT shifters could be his arms, He is holding on for a hard ride.

In all seriousness, It just looks like a big glob of metal. As said previously, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Definitely on the opposite end of the design spectrum than say, a Stronglight crank.

Surfer,
I would still post them at higher than $100 on e-bay. If selling here perhaps that is a deal for someone. Smiles, MH

story behind this pic: Shimano 600 Arabeque

It was a lousy bike, a heavy "Kent," but had the Arabesque stuff on it. I pulled off the Arabesque stuff and sold it for well more than $10, and threw the lousy frame and tires away.
