Kona Hardtails
so, Does the new kona hard tail design/frame better than their previous frame/design. by better, I mean better for cross country riding. I own a Kona 05 Cinder Cone, but I like the looks of the new 06 frames. Although they have down graded the specs. on this line quite substentially. but, if you just compare frame to frame, are post 06 frame better than the pre 06 frame.
thanks for your help.

overpriced?! I paid $1800 for my Dawg Deluxe. Find a bike with a similar level of components (all Deore and XT, Fox FLOAT R rear shock, Marzocchi GrandFondo 1 fork, hydraulic disc brakes by Hayes, etc etc) and see how much it will cost you if its made by TREK or SPECIALIZED.
Kona bikes always come with a very high standard of components for the price.

All I know is my hand made Kona Hot is God's gift to hardtails.
Although I ride mostly road nowadays, I laugh everytime I hit the trails and all these newer riders, who have never ridden a hardtail, no absolutely nothing about finesse on the trail. Slam, slam, slam is all they do bashing their way around brain dead thinking the frame will handle it. In the end they're always slower on cross country trails. There is something magical about glacefully flicking a light steel hardtail around the trail that instinctively goes around, over, and through the obstacles, and lays down all the power from the crank.
Full suspension is incredible, but for pure cross country trail riding nothing beats a steel hardtail - a Kona hardtail.

The kona has better:
Fork
cassette
saddle
Brakes
RD
Tires
yeah, i'd say the Kona is DEFINATLY not overpriced. If anything, the TREK is the overpriced bike in that comparison being as it uses components that are lower-grade and is a more expensive bike.

I guess they changed it alittle because mine actually came with an xt rd and deore fd and camino rims with shimano hubs. In my opinion the axel fork was about as bad as it could be. It lived up to my expectations though and lasted a good 10 minutes. I think I'm gonna sell it and get a tora as a backup fork. With these two loadouts I would have to say that the caldera is better bang for the buck then.

I found konas in my price range to be more expensive than the competition. I ended up with the specialized because its comfy, and as an added bonus had a much better fork. Im not at all impressed with the MZ-2 or MZ-3. Marz or not, i think those 2 particular forks are junk.
