Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wind

I'm curious, if you're heading into a fairly stiff headwind (12-15mph/19-24kph) what sort of speed decrease would YOU expect to see over say...10 miles/16 km of rolling terrain, if any at all?

-15 mph, I'd turn around and go the other way.

Depends on how fast I'm going and how much effort I want to put into fighting the wind. I've had wind gusts that almost literally stopped me from moving forward.

10 miles into 15 mph headwinds, I'd probably be riding about 10-12 mph at the most.

Speaking of wind. I was riding on flat going in to head wind doing at first 15 then dropping to 10-12. Comming back I was doing about 30 without putting much of an effort in to it. Any guestimation on what the wind speed was? Mostly where I ride it's a lot of hills, but not much wind. So I don't have a lot of experience to judge this by.

thanks.
