my commuters have "big" chainrings of 46 and 44. And i don't go use the small cogs on the cassette. Ok my m5 has a 52 front ring but it only has 20" wheels.

Two shifts in a 22 mile flat ride with crosswinds. The first was to correct a ghost shift and the second was to correct the over shift of that correction. Normally there would be a tailwind on the return leg, and as such a few shifts in and out of the big ring.
There are many more details which could be discussed, but it boils down to my needs being diametrically opposed to yours. All I need is a comfortable bike and a motor. We are talking about different animals here.

The Canyon's 36x34 is the first low gear I've ever had that I find too low on most climbs. Most, but not all.

Very nice morning. Encountered numerous Amish in buggies and on foot heading to a house for worship. Got several greetings from those on foot.
Around 65 miles. Started at 6:55. Was at my local at 2:30 for a couple of hard ciders, fish tacos and to watch the Iggles lose.

I'm sorry my lack of shifting has caused so much consternation in the group. But you can now see why I was shocked. SHOCKED. When I read that some of you are shifting hundreds of times on a similar length ride. On a normal ride it is the wind direction that makes the decision to shift or hold fast. And I shift into the big ring out on the road and into the small through the villages. I wish there was cause to shift more. Sadly there is not.
