Head set bearing race

I have a new suspension for with a 1 1/8" steering tube. What is the best way to install the head set bearing race? I don't have any special tools. Thanks!

If the frame cups are already in place, you can make a slide hammer out of a piece of pipe. In case the pipe is a sloppy fit, protect the race with a washer that's a closer fit on the steerer so you're driving by the inner edge only rather than bearing contact area.

Or if there's a local bike co-op, bring the fork, and a small donation and borrow their slide hammer.

BTW- you don't have to get the bearing race home, as long as it's started, riding alone will settle it over time, but you'll be adjusting your headset until it does.
