ah you have made the common mistake that the issue is lack of organization- nay nay, the issue is putting tools back where they belong!
my workbench is far closer to bwilli88’s than I care to admit....

5 Drawer cart...
Someone mentioned the Harbor Freight 5 drawer cart...Absolutely perfect for my bike tools, etc.!
I have a couple of the HB 4 drawer...good carts...the three dissimilar drawers up top of the five drawer cart are perfect for all of the small parts and tools that go with the bike game...
Bearings, derailleur and brake cable ends, links, etc...
Lotsa small stuff in the back in small built in troughs...
The usual stuff...plus...
Bigger stuff, maybe not used as much...

This is the wall board...
I’m always thinking about getting one be humongous box...consolidating all five boxes into one mothership...and maybe put these tools into the box, too.
Worked in a machinist shop...everything was put away safely in your box at the end of your shift...
i would put all of the bigger bike stuff on a wall...

Open box...couple of dents...2.5 times below regular price! I think the dents popped out as we were putting it in truck or as I was doing the “2 outta three falls” removing it by myself getting it out of the truck!

Harbor Freight sells a lot of crappy stuff, but their tool carts are awesome! I also have a Snap On roller cart. They are ridiculously expensive but I picked it up used.

My solution? Remember those flat files of yore for actual blueprints? fully extend almost, not deep, so you cannot bury a tool easily, and easy to visually scan.
I don't like reaching behind a workbench.
At the first shop I worked for, they had a 38" high shallow wall bench 20" deep, a 12" shelf 16" above that- pegboard beyond. worked.
Still disliked the pegboard. They also used thin outdoor carpet on the bench top. no clanging, fewer scratches. It did need replacing periodically.
Equipto shop cabinet drawers for small parts. Big dollars. I keep looking for those to come up at auction. One day.

I've always wanted a pegboard but I like to sometimes work outside or on my screened-in back porch. So my setup is on the go, but I'll admit, it's getting rediculously heavy. However I prescribe to the "put your tools away when a job is done, it's time to eat, or it's time to quit for the day". If you follow that and your tool storage can adequately carry all your tools then you should be fine.
Seriously this box weighs like 40-50lbs
Top box and top drawer are embarrassingly messy, I'm motivated to clean that crap up.
Second drawer is well organized. Special sockets, cassette tools etc.
Bottom drawer is all wrenches and a file.
This is a Husky tool caddy I found at Home Depot for $6 I think. All the liquids and grease.

I have a crafstman socket set that I've had for 24 years, I've added lots of bits and pieces to it over the years, its primary use is for wrenching on cars and its exceedingly rare that I need a tool for working on cars that I don't have in this box,
And this is my "bike tools box", it certainly doesn't have everything, and some of the tools are home made, the chain whip, but it has most of what I need, I did have to buy a freewheel tool for the super course, but that was the only bicycle tool purchase I've made in a while, I found the tool box at the dump about 20 years ago, just looking at this tool box makes me happy because contained within are tools that make bikes work better and bikes working better makes me happy!

From Chaos comes creation!!!!
I try to keep my garage clean and organized, but I'm not often all that successful, it generally varies from absolute disaster, to almost fully cleaned and organized, but thats less than %10 of the time, its a halfway filthy mess %70 of the time and total disaster %20 of the time....

It is tore up!
I did some vacation bikes, mostly mountain bikes...four mtbs and two road bikes...two mtbs take up as much room as four road bikes!
I’m tearing into donor bikes and transplanting the parts.
Also trying to restructure my shops down to shop...= one big mess!
