I always carried an adapter in my bike travel tool kit (next to the adjustable wrench in the picture) as well as have one screwed on to one of the valves on the bike.

It's a Helkama from roughly 1990 or so.
I got it cheap at a used bike shop, put new Schwalbe tires on it, and then had to buy a cheap front wheel when the threads on the axle stripped off when removing the wheel to install the tires! Still a good, low key way to get around.
Now that all of my tools have gotten here, she's going to get all of her bearings repacked, but I'm not going to make her look pretty!
It has a 7-speed Shimano IGH that was simple to adjust. I'm not a big fan of the coaster brake integrated into it (and the fact that it now requires high-temperature grease instead of oil) or the cheap Italian plastic cantilever brake and lever on the front, or the galvanized steel seatpost... but I'm sure enjoying it!
Now I'm thinking about turning my 1967 Carlton into a similar upright, IGH city bike. I'm not so sure, though. I've seen tangles of bikes that have fallen over here when placed in the racks, and I don't want that to happen to my baby!

Thanks everyone for updating!
My update:
I put a dent in my rear break track and needed to have it bent out and needed another tube.
The rim repair and tube change was £13 ($22), so I'll update the costs!

it was after a traversing a bridge and at a end of the bridge/road transition. because you get dumped out into a roundabout, so i was turning and didn't see the curb under the long grass.

they mowed the grass that was covering the exposed curb.

crap roads in England.
i broke through the new Schwalbe Lugano and had a flat.
the store refunded the cost of the Schwalbe Lugano (only had roughly 300km on it) toward a new Gatorskin.
i also purchased two extra tubes (+1 for the new tire) and a set of bar end caps.
will update costs tonight

The English roads are quite tough and made out of different materials than I have seen in Sweden, Germany and the US. It seems that often transitions in the road surface are quite tough on bikes/cars.
Today I hit one of these surfaces quite hard (30kph) with a Schwalbe Lugano 23-622 at 110psi.
I heard the hiss and knew it was over.
I walked back to the store.
New tire was put on at 1406km and had a slice all the way through about 1 cm long at 1597km. They were surprised that I was able to slash the tire at 191km and gave me the money back for the tube and tire.
I used that toward 3 new tubes, so I can change my own next time, and a Conti Ultra Gatorskin (23-622) and some cheap handlebar plugs as one was lost due to a crash during the winter and a drop this morning. I'm usually somewhat careful with my stuff, but when I'm commuting and is in a rush in the morning, I seem to abuse those items more that usual, probably due to sleepiness as well.
In all, it was 28 GBP for the new goodies (47 USD).
So let's update the costs to £509/$807 total.

£507 / £4.50 bus fare round trip = 112 trips or roughly 2240km ... so I still have a ways to go. Will be roughly 1 year of commuting to recoup the cost of the bike/maintenance/lock/lights/speedo (I already had a helmet and clothing for my other bike ... but realistically ... it should be roughly another £150 or an additional 30 RT bus fares if I was starting from absolute scratch ... or about 150 days of cycle commuting!)

got invited to do a 5k run on THR evening. ran 5k tonight in prep for the first time since 2006. leg are sore but this doesn't affect cycling at all. kinda interesting.
