Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

One thing I note in @indyfabz's photo is the relative equal M:F ratio. On my rides, it's typically 80+% male.

On mine it's usually worse than that and the women who do start with us tend to drop back or turn off and shorten course as a body, if they have slower people to protect. I think that's actually kind of nice. Touring is a whole different thing, I reckon.

I imagine so. Our club is not a touring club nor a racing club. We are an "enthusiast" club. I would estimate M:F ratio for the club and rides as a whole to be maybe 2:1 but the ratio becomes more extreme at the faster/longer rides, likely because of the same dynamic you noticed.

It was an organized event designed to introduce people to bike touring. The organizers have been doing them for 3 or 4 years. This was the first time they went to the New Hope area. The usual event goes from the Art Museum to a farm in Kimberton. Lots of women and couples (MF and FF and maybe some MM). Expensive for what it is, so something that I would not likely do. A friend could not use her ticket. I will pay her something though.

I just got a (phishing) phone message sayinge they have discovered suspicious activity in my social security account and have therefore shut it down until I contact them and, most likely, provide all my vital personal information. OMG what am I to do ???

Can you transfer it to me? For a nominal commission on the annuity, I'll let you give them my personal info and pay the upfront costs.

Speaking of transferring assets, one of my friends who used to live here but moved back home to California is in town for a few days. He brought his bike, it's a beautiful Calfee Dragonfly with S/S couplers for easy transportation. I told him the only thing wrong with the bicycle is that it's not my size.

I got two of those a day for several weeks until they gave up...or my account was closed. I didn't check.

Let's not get carried away.

The second place guy was lapping about 1 minute faster than me. The fourth place guy spent a couple of minutes per lap taking beer hand ups -- he usually dukes it out with the guy on the top step.

Still more sad, obsolete tech news.

I wonder why the payday loan industry never got lump sum SS buyouts legalized.

Remember the Johnny Carson Tonight Show skits, Carnac the Magnificent? So here is a timely example:

The answer is, “Blech!” What is the question?

”How do you feel the day after the second Shingrix vaccination?”

Mine were quite unpleasant, but acetaminophen was very helpful.
