Looks homemade to me, especially some of those chewing gum welds joining the back and front ends. I think that it has two different serial numbers on the two BBs pretty much nails that theory.

About the "articulated tandem bicycle" -- nope, not a bicycle. Yay me, I can count to three!
I just hope they used heat-treated, alloy steel, aircraft-grade bolts to attach the rear fork to the rear dropouts of the front bike. Because if one of those bolts snaps, the other one will snap too, pretty much instantly, and someone will be in a lot of pain. Unless that someone shuffles off this mortal coil -- the ultimate in pain relief.
But I'm sure they used the aircraft grade bolts. I mean, why wouldn't they?
I love how he says he has the parts to put it back to two single bikes. Sure, bend the blades out to fit the outside of the rear dropouts, then bend them back in to fit a front wheel. Repeat as many times as you like, it's not a paper clip.

No kidding, I just moved long distance, and when the trucks showed up, two of my bikes were gone. I called the company, and they said 'We don't know what happened to your bikes'. Period. Fortunately my really nice stuff got here OK, but WTF?

We've always moved ourselves, even when moving from Detroit to Madison with seven cats. But if I ever had to pay someone to move my stuff, I think I'd make it a point to take a photo of every item worth more than about $50, as they were loading it onto the truck. Just to keep them on their toes, "keep honest people honest".

I know the history of this bike from the bartender that got it new to the 2nd owner that painted it red and put Gios decals on it. Why? Because he likes Gios bikes but didn't want to pay for one. It's not bad for an amateur paint job.
All the components are solid good stuff and it's been converted to 1X7 shift system with Raceface wide/narrow chain retaining ring so it's pretty simple and no front derailleur to fuss with.
