Road bike rental Bozeman Montana
I am going to be in Bozeman in from 8-09 thru 09-15. Tried to rent a road bike for maybe 4 days and wow. One place is $50 a day and the other is $40 but they are booked and not in my size. I guess I should have planned better. I don't do this much only one other time rented a bike, but what is the expected maybe I am just out of touch. I do want a road bike and I would not mind pay $50 a day but I really think it needs to be a pretty decent bike.
I am a bike mechanic but I am guess most rental shops could care less and to try to get you something, To pay $200 for 4 days to ride a bike am I just out of touch or is that pretty standard?

My only experience is that we checked out bike rentals in Estes Park CO on a recent visit. ~$50 a day was what I remember. Of course, Estes is a tourist town, not sure what to expect in a metro area (not sure Bozeman qualifies... lol)

$95 per day to rent a decent road bike here on the Eastside of the south Puget Sound. About $50 for a heavy city hybrid 8 speed.
Just checked for a friend.
I did not inquire about a weekly rate, and will make one of my 58cm bikes act 56cm for him!
As an aside - best Bozeman cycling clubs/sites ?
(i'm coming through for a couple of days in Aug with my own bikes)

I agree it sounds like a lot of money. Going rate is even higher here though.

Well, this place has one for $40/day. https://www.owenhousecycling.com/rentals/
I would guess you could negotiate a lower price for a multi-day rental. They only have to set it up once . . . it's like skis. Extra days are always cheaper.
Other challenge is I think Bozeman is mostly about mountain biking, so yor selection is going to be more limited.

Bozeman isn't a destination for road bikes, though it has some pretty decent cycling. You'd have no problem renting skis or a mtb!
Did you try Owen House? It's right downtown. https://www.owenhousecycling.com/rentals/

In the SF Bay Area, a decent road bike will cost considerably more than $50 per day.
Here's a page I built that lists bikes for rent in in the San Francisco Bay Area. It's a bit out of date, but I suspect the dollar amounts haven't changed much.

Why not ship your own bike there using Bikeflights or Shipbikes? You could almost certainly ship round trip for less than $200.
As noted above, it's not the best road cycling the state has to offer, but there is some decent riding. If you will have a car and some time I can offer you some suggestions. I have done a fair amount of touring to the west of Bozeman, passing through places like Ennis, Twin Bridges and Butte. The climb from Whitehall up to Pipestone Pass on MT 2 is fun. The climb from Ennis towards Virginia City will put hair on your chest and offers a great view of Madison Valley. About a 2 hr. drive away is a place called Wise River, which sits at the northern end of the Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway. You can climb to one degree or another for 26 miles. Very scenic. Closer to the summit is a stunning alpine meadow. The Byway is part of the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route. It's paved now, but wasn't until 2008.

You are right, apologies for the attitude.
I probably should have just not replied, sorry.
Good luck with the search. I would add that amy rental you do is going to be cheaper then flying in with a bike, so maybe $50 isn't so bad when you consider it's a beautiful place to ride a bike and I'd bet you will enjoy the cycling - weather dependent !. Hopefully it doesn't rain those days.

If you're thinking of rides from town, the road up to Hyalite reservoir is one you should consider. The road is narrow in spots but usually not busy; I found the drivers to be pretty well behaved.

There is, but not sure how much use it actually gets-
https://www.spinlister.com/
To the OP- I've rented road bikes (usually aluminum/105 level) in Miami, San Diego, Montreal, and Palm Springs over the last 3-4 years. $50/day is pretty standard.

Maybe snagging something on Craigs and then dumping it for a loss when you leave could work. $50 x 36 days = $1,800, so buy a decent used bike on Craigs for $1,000 dump it fast for $500 and you're way ahead.

It seems I got it figured out now to find best place to cycle. Last time I was there I went a bit East and North of the downtown Bozeman Area. I went up Kelly Canyon Road and out this way
https://www.strava.com/activities/17598729. It was pretty good but it was 7 years ago and I don't know what might be different. I would like to find an area that does allow some climbing but also some smooth descends as I live in the flatlands and pretty hard to find hills that can get you up past 35 MPH coasting. I found traffic was not a problem the route I went back then and a few good climbs not I could not handle but I am not a great climber.

I've only ridden around Bozeman a few times, but I have ridden Kelly Canyon. You can connect Kelly to Jackson Creek, which I thought was lovely, modest (3-5% over 4 miles, tips up a little near the pass), and it doesn't get much traffic.
