Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

steel luged frames

If you were in the market for a beautifull high end luged steel beauty what would you look at? Vanilla and Rivendale come to my mind, what else is out there?

check out the photo gallery link

I'd also like to get a Richard Sachs 'Signature' someday, but the current wait is 3 1/2 years

I know you guys like your local custom builders, but I'd go for a 90s, or early 2000s Colnago with the chrome lugs. I've always thought they were sexy

I'll try to find a better pic

basically one of these without the carbon stays

There are literally hundreds (if not thousands) of good steel frame manufacturers. My preference would be someone local that I could visit, get fitted by, etc.

Richard Sachs, Anvil, Independent Fab, etc etc etc ... the sky is the limit ..

IF, Vanilla, Waterford.... Those would be my choices, in that order too most likely. As the poster above mentioned, there's thousands of great lugged steel designers out there. Just about any of them would be a good choice.

Update your database..... Never saw or heard of a lugged IF, nor an Anvil. AFWIW, don't think Anvil is currently doing frames.

Never saw or heard of a lugged IF,and you would be hard put to find 'thousands' of makers of lugged steel today. Although you might find that many if you included the whole world and the blacksmiths in Pakistan and Afganistan.

OK - I was referring to steel in general, I don't know how many makers there are, but there are a lot around new England. Fine - perhaps not "thousands" but that's not my point.

I don't know if Anvil makes bikes anymore - I didn't see anything on their website to indicate otherwise, but I am on my way out the door for a ride so I don't have time to search the sight.

Check out this Anvil frame ...

Carrera and Gios still make lugged steel bikes and they're actually built in Italy.

Tommasini Tecno or Sintesi. No better production finish in the business... Then there's Glenn Erickson in Seattle.
