Guess it's time for new shoes...
Getting back into cycling after a decade away. I was coming back from a ride and felt something funny with my right crank. I look down and see that the sole has separated from the upper:
The story I'm telling people is that it was my tremendous wattage that killed the shoes. The reality is that is was dried glue on an old pair of mountain bike shoes...

Those shoes can be repaired (DIY) and used. (Well, at least my cheapskate a$$ would try to do it.) I have a pair of cycling shoes I purchased new in the late 1980s. They aren't my only cycling shoes. I have newer ones that I use more frequently. I just want to see how long I can keep the old pair going. A few times over the years the sole has separated from the upper. A good glue, like Shoo-goo, or a hot glue gun, and some clamps is all you need. You can even glue new velcro on the straps if it's worn out. Give it a try.

Shoe Goo would put 'em back together. For a while, anyway. Used Shoe Goo on a pair of house shoes a few months ago and they are still intact.

+1 on shoe goo. Fixed my OLD 30 y.o. Detto's with it several months ago. They're holding just fine.

The trick is, after you've glued things back together, wrap it in that red duct tape, and tell everyone. "It wasn't anything a little duct tape couldn't fix!"

Shoe Goo, works really well on this type of repair. Our town has no cobblers at the present, unfortunately.
New and if you're using clipless pedals (spd-sl Shimano, etc,), I love my Sidi Genius 5, megawidth. There is a newer model of the Genius out, and some just introduced models that are less costly than the high end Wire models.
For old school quill pedals with toe clips and straps I have some lace up Giro that I did a sole modification on.
