If you check the seller (I'm not associated), you can see, that he specialized in filling the gap and pretty much every Zunow, 3Rensho, Toei belongs to him. Plus he's the one willng to ship.

Here is a recent garage find ,stored for decades. It is a hand built custom Gitane from 1970 and there is the remains of the Reynolds 531 sticker on the down tube. The crank is Stronglight, the brakes are Mafac "Competition", wheels are Mavic rims with Campagnolo Grand Comp hubs, the deraileurs are Simplex and Heuret, the pedals are Leotard and one is missing the dust cap. The sadle is a Brooks but is shot. I have done nothing to the bike yet but give it a wash.
Could be a great bike to restore or just ride as is.
$350.00 cash takes it

Story:
Reluctantly selling my Gitane Service Course Tour de France bike. This bike was just below Gitane’s top of the line Super Corsa which was all Campy on the same frame. This bike as built up gets you close with the added Campagnolo parts. Bought the incomplete bike from the original owner and built it up with parts as close to original as possible. Everything was stripped down, cleaned, polished, re-greased (bottom bracket, headset, both wheel hubs). The frame had a lot of surface chips and scrapes so I sanded those parts, primed, and touched up with some blue paint, the idea being to preserve as much of the original finish as possible. It’s not a great match, but it’s close. Built up/sourced a Mavic clincher wheelset so that you can run more conventional tires.

Bike rides and handles great, shifts smooth, and is surprisingly supple which is part of its metric-gauge Frenchness I suppose. For me this bike is great because it’s a top-of-the-line ride but doesn’t scream for attention and flies under the radar a bit.

Frame:
Double butted Reynolds steel throughout (frame, stays, forks)
Simplex dropouts (“fish-mouth” fork drop outs ID this as a US market TDF)
22 inch/56cm seat tube measured center to top
22 inch/56cm top tube measured center to center
Totally straight, no rust or cracks, very, very minor dent (barely noticeable) on top tube
Typical delicate French paint so lots of touch up to protect the metal and preserve as much of the original finish as possible
Chrome in great shape
Suitable for someone 5’6”” to 6’0” depending on preference. I’m 5’10” and this bike is a great fit for me
Willing to sell frame hs/bb only as well

There was a 59 cm green Tour de France kicking around Columbus this summer for the asking price here. It's a shame it's much too large for me.
I think all the average size bikes, even though there are more of them built, just get used up until all that's left of an era are garage queen giraffe bikes.

I agree; plus the supposedly nicest one, the PXN10LE isn't original, it's missing the iconic drilled out crankset and who knows what else isn't original; and the PX10LE is missing the Simplex front derailleur.

Google Peugeot PX10 history and this will come up: PX-10_History Compare the components with what's on those bikes, those bikes are mutts, not worth what they're asking for due to them not being original. Also, I was racing bikes back in those days and I test rode the top of line Peugeot and I didn't like it, the frame was noodly, on hard acceleration I could get the brake pads to rub on both sides of the rim and could get the chain to rub on both sides of the front derailleur cage. While they were comfortable to ride on, due to the noodly nature of the frame, they were not suitable for racing. Not saying you'll be racing on one, but what I am saying is that a frame that is noodly will wear out sooner, and those bikes are over 40 years old and not telling how many miles are on them, probably a lot since they had to replace parts and couldn't find original stuff. Of all the bikes I ever test rode the Peugeots were the most noodly. Also from people I knew that owned them the flex in the frame on larger sizes would vibrate at higher speeds, what they call a wobble, it can only be controlled by slowing down or bracing your knees against each side of the top tube.

They also have odd construction, a standard stem for example won't fit into the steerer of a French bike, seat tube is slightly smaller so a standard seat post won't fit; the French bottom bracket is also an odd size and nearly impossible to find these days, plus they're threaded reverse than others so you have to put on some Loctite then crank it down tight to keep it from backing itself out.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a vintage French made bike, but that's just me.

I have had a truly horrific experience with an eBay merchant. I bought an old '50s English 531 frame back in March from a well-regarded eBay merchant for old bike stuff. The shipper made an error for the labeling, and it ended up in Fedex's lost merchandise warehouse. After some time and with no response to my inquiries on the wherabouts of the frame to the shipper, I opened a ticket on eBay and with Fedex. He responded, indicating that the frame had been found in the lost merchandise warehouse (which I knew already and had explained to him repeatedly - Fedex couldn't get a hold of him either). Fedex would not ship the frame to me, and claimed it had to be returned to sender (the UK shipper / eBay merchant). I agreed that he would have it sent back and re-ship to me (I should have known and gone for a refund but...) I waited for follow up...and waited....and waited. I wrote dozens of messages in the eBay system and via email requesting tracking and finally a refund, I also contacted Fedex who confirmed that the frame had been shipped back to the UK weeks before (they also confirmed signed delivery by the UK merchant, which I have evidence for). Not a peep from the seller since then nor has the frame been re-listed on his eBay store. I gave the guy the benefit of the doubt, and now because of that and the time since the transaction I'm out $258. eBay refuses to act, ditto the bank, ditto Paypal. That is the last time I make a purchase of that size on eBay. I hesitate to name the eBay merchant, but seriously to hell with him. Caveat emptor.

Very funny I just figured that rather than making a new thread, I would share my experience here. I really looked forward to my first '50s lightweight, so the poor buying experience was particularly bitter for me.
