Beautiful Fall Day and Flying Turkeys (No Pic)
Took a nice 26 mile ride yesterday along my favorite Shore Road route. Climbing a hill in a wooded section a dozae or more wild turkeys started flying from one side of the road to the other, altitude around 20 feet. In all my riding I had always seen them pecking away at the ground like chickens so this was a big surprise to me. Could not possibly have stopped and gotten my camera out in time.
Great foliage this year:

A sunny Fall day. Looks a most relaxing ride in the country.
I'm watching out for wet leaves in the turns these days.

Is that Plum Island? I have sailed out of Rockport to Plum Island and Crane's Beach and raced bikes in Essex many years ago. Of course that could also be Narragansett Bay, Sekonet (sp) or Cape Cod. But those colors seem to me like Cape Ann, southern NH.
So how's my aging memory?

Sculptor7, I'm enjoying fall weather also. The dryer air produces crisper views so that scenery is somewhat etched. Fall is probably my favorite season. I love the cool air in the morning that then warms throughout the day and of course, vivid colors. I'm happiest living near water and here in Rhode Island, the Ocean State, I'm surrounded by water which together with fall colors makes me very happy indeed.
Lots of turkey here also. A while back there was a family of them parading back and forth in front of the police station next to a busy road. As a boy growing up in a rural part of New York State, I never saw even a single turkey. Nowadays they are every where. Those suckers are big.

Nice! Foliage is a bit farther along up here, but hanging on longer than usual this year. Watch out for those turkeys, I'd hate to have one smack into me on a fast downhill! I've had to dodge a few chickens in the road, even an occasional Guinea Hen or a Partridge or two, but a flying turkey would be pretty serious!

Really nice! Wife (a native NE coastie) and I do at least twice a year week long vacations in down south Maine. Only way I can keep her in Colorado the rest of the time.

Another awesome fall day here in Rhode Island. How awesome is it - awesomely awesome, that's how much. If this weather keeps up I'll have nothing to complain about.

Turkeys! They're all over here, near Lake Erie, as well.
Just last week, riding through a wooded area, I encountered a large flock walking across the road. Not alarmed at my presence, I had to weave and brake as I picked my way through them. It seemed that my being there confused them, as some wandered aimlessly in the road. In the past they've been WAY more shy than that!

Found my turkey pic taken on a cycling trip. Unfortunately, not flying.
By the time I pulled out the camera they had run across the road and I had drifted into the oncoming lane of a 55mph road. Luckily it was a quiet traffic day.
Same trip, here's what I caught flying - and it just might have been on a turkey hunt.
oh yeah, eastern Washington - on a cross state 60th birthday ride (Neah Bay to almost Spokane), just a couple years ago.
