Happy Pie day
My son had to remind me on FB. I must be getting old.

I just got slapped in the face with this fact on another website. I totally didn't notice. Or remember.

The movie "Pi the Movie" is well worth the rental, for those who have not seen it
Black and white, stark photography. Good for when you tire of chase scenes, and
stuff getting blown up.
Happy π day indeed.

I knew it was pi day, and I even wore my t-shirt from last year's pi run, but having seen no invitation or announcement for it, I assumed UCSD's annual pi run was off. I came out of a symposium to see the pies spread out on the table, waiting for the first wave of runners to return. Oh well ... next year.

Sent my wife a reminder in an email this morning. She is a math major, and former math teacher, it was a small victory to catch her with this one. May the 3.14s be with you.

A few of us from our bike club celebrated Pi Day with a short casual ride around town followed by homemade blueberry and coconut/brownsugar chess pie that one of the members made. Then we moved to a restaurant for pizza pie and beer.

Important fact about the Bailey–Borwein–Plouffe Formula for calculating the nth digit of pi: It was not discovered by the three mathematicians it was named after. It was discovered only by Canadian mathematician Simon Plouffe, who worked on cracking this centuries-old problem for 20 years and should have received sole credit for it. Only a genius with a highly intuitive approach to mathematics could have solved this problem, and such a person was unlikely to arise from traditional institutions. Simon Plouffe was deprived of sole credit for this discovery because he was outside the math establishment, but that's exactly what led to the discovery.

Too bad this really doesn't work for a dating format that makes sense (yr, month, day or day, month, year).
