Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

But here's the thing: we were with them last weekend. Their daughter had been sick (kind of a common theme at get togethers) and then our daughter has been having cold symptoms and now our boy is coughing like mad. No fevers, but apparently kids can get it and have no fever. We initially thought our girl was having allergy issues.

So I was supposed to travel to Houston which is its own hotbed of covid19, but now I feel like it would be irresponsible to even go into the office Monday. Had to call my two bosses Friday afternoon while driving back from Nashville and explain the situation.

The big problem is that the Tuesday job in Houston has been months in the making. I need to do some on site work to assist with permanent install of some of our devices. Now I feel like my only option is to ship the stuff overnight and just do a video call with them. I don't feel kosher asking someone to travel to Houston right now. I was already feeling a little nervous about it myself.

Welp, rather than go out for a ride, I decided to watch Iron Man with my boy while the wife and daughter were napping. Good decision.

And the shoes showed up - these wides feel SO much better than the previous and have no problem accommodating thicker socks, like ones that I would wear at ~20°. Guess I should go pick up some cleats for 'em.

I went to a social gathering. Halfway through the meal, a lady sitting next to me (and I mean squeeze-around-the-table next to me) said she has a graduate student staying with her. He arrived at the end of December from Wuhan, China. He complained of having the flu. She subsequently got sick for about a week.

I'm not a #CoronaVirus worrywart, but the fact that I take lots of immunosuppressant drugs does give me pause about acquiring a new disease.

Corona woman brought a rhubarb pie, or at least that's what she said it was. Someone asked her if she cooked the rhubarb before making the pie. She said no, it just cooked when you bake the pie. Then a guy across the table (I'm not making this up) said, "You know rhubarb is poisonous if you don't cook it."

So corona woman tried to kill me twice today.

Second COVID-19 case in my county. The governor has asked that all non-essential businesses go on hiatus.

Does not apply to me so must go back to work on Monday.

Very good chance we will have to isolate when (if) we get back. For better or worse, all nonessential clinical activity, e.g., my lab, has been halted anyway and I am going to be dealing with admin stuff, most of which can be done remotely.

Dear old Galway.

The stems aren't poisonous when raw - we would snap 'em off and eat 'em straightaway. I think it's just the leaves that are a no-no.

I‘m on a hormone suppressant and I have to admit to being curious if it had any effect on my immune system even though I haven’t noticed any increase in illnesses since I’ve been on it. Then, I got an email this morning from my cancer group this AM assuring from me that the drug doesn’t increase likelihood of infection.

Also, I have an appointment Wednesday and I have to do a short phone interview on Monday to talk about travels, sniffles, etc. and also to tell me that only one family member or care provider could accompany me to my appointment. Sounds like they are being prudent.
