Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Lol, I bought another pair of shoes yesterday , this years rc7 with the dual boa's. Damn the economy full speed ahead

I had a really great ride today. I knew that I didn't have much time to beat the rain so I focused on keeping my heart rate up quite a bit higher than my normal cruising rate for the whole ride. Guess what people, if you work harder on the bike you go faster! What a surprise!

I still got caught in the rain, but didn't get soaked so I was all right with it. It certainly made for some moody views though:

I really enjoyed that! Great piece and nice tight performance. I assume the title is a reference to John Cage.

I love it all, African, Afro-Caribbean, Samba, Gemelan, Steve Reich, you name it.

The coffee shop adjacent to our bike shop closed for a while. Sad.

Here's a picture from happier times.

What's wrong with drinking from a garden hose?

Nope.

It's about addiction. From the composer, "Six short movements tell a life story in 15 minutes. Each movement is distinct in its timbre, yet all blend seamlessly to tell a haunting story."
Movements:
- Innocence
- Error of my ways
- Straight and narrow
- Fall from grace
- Sleep of the dead
- Abandonment

That's regular. I use mid-grade -- $2.60.

Now I must contradict myself and buy something.

The Dawes SS stock rear wheel broke a spoke. Drive side, natch. It has done this a couple times before and it’s a crappy wheel now getting old anyway so I am considering getting a new rear wheel. Any suggestions? Should be cheap, durable, I don’t care about weight. Ideally have a flip-flop hub but I have never used the fixed side currently so not a deal breaker.

I have never ever posted or even visited the SS/FG forum. Dare I post there?

Even dumber question: I have some old road wheels with obviously 130mm spacing. The SS is set up with I think 110 or maybe 120 rear spacing. It’s a tank made of steel. I wonder how stupid it would be to try to stretch and/or cold set it to fit a road rear hub?

I just filled up at Costco - $1.49/gal. Makes me wish I had a 30 gal tank, but it might have gone bad before I could burn through it.

I don't know about 110, but 120 should be doable if you don't care about some paint wrinkling on your chainstays.

I think it’s 120. May try it, although I have the upper body strength of a mouse.
