Low Rider rack for old MtB?
Tried a generic and the necessary u-bolt, when attached the limited rail at top, cants the rack + bags ridiculously.
The only attachment point is just aft the axle/skewer. Is there a budget-minded LR that will fit this old Trek in a level manner?
Thanks,
DG

It looks like you are attaching it backwards. The rack should be mostly forward of the of the axle. The U-bolt option works well but you have to use it properly.

Does the rack has the twin and slightly angled WRT each other top rails of a hoopless rack? Or is the rack a single per side top rail that only touched the blade on the outer face? (Or in fewer words- is the cross over hoop over the front wheel missing?) Single top rail attachment and no hoop... not a good rack in my opinion.
Front racks have less adjustability and less industry "standards" for mounting points and thus the angle of top rail can be all over the place. This is one of those parts that really want to be mocked up before paying for. that's usually best done at the shop selling the rack. Andy

An image of the mounted rack without the bags on it might help us with finding a solution to your problem.
Cheers

We'd still be interested in seeing the original rack without bags on the fork. I can't believe it can't be made to fit correctly.

The maladjusted rack is at my work place. In comparison to the Axiom, the adjustment rail is shorter. Even the Axiom kants a bit more than prudent BUT, following a youtube suggested mod, becomes almost completely level while maintaining integrity. Versatility of my bags is great, as I have Axiom Storm Fronts that (with the locking cleats) can ride up front. The Blackburns fit fine either way, but most securely on the rear where the Topeak dovetailed system MTX bag effectively locks in over the rail hooks. Pics, hopefully, next week.
