No deal ... that's an early '80s Deluxe Varsity with Shimano FFS crankset. Not worth the price IMHO.

You missed your chance. For $350 you could have built quite a few varsities out of these barrels of pure joy.

I sold mine a few weeks ago on CL for $180. It was much nicer and almost all original. I thought the price I got was too high. I say no deal

A much better deal! As Bob Hufford said, it is not a late '60s Varsity but more like a mid '80s. Best of luck!

schwinn varsity
I bought a 1965 varsity for $140 on ebay (buy it now). I wouldn't normally overspend for a Varsity but the bike really caught my attention. Call me crazy, but the bike has all french parts! I had to shine it up and I'm still spec-ing neat parts and accessories for it. Back in it's day, there weren't many choices for ten speeds that were better for the price. When you look around for Varsitys, it is difficult to find any built before say, 1968. The majority of the ones I've seen in yard sales and such were made in the 70's. So, I'll ask the question.... what is the most collectible Varsity That Schwinn made?

I'll let other crazies comment on the collectibility of Varsities.

Congrats on your new Varsity. 1960 is probably the most collectible year. This was the introduction of the drop-bar Varsity model with 8-speeds. The model name had be used in the '50s on tourist 3-speed.

That's probably double the cost of the bike when it was new, and all Schwinn Varsities came with French parts. Many "Schwinn-approved" parts came from France, especially Huret derailleurs and Maillard hubs.
I'll let other crazies comment on the collectibility of Varsities.

If you see an original 3 speed Varsity or Continental, it's probably a fillet brazed bike from the 50s, like Bob said. Snatch it up.

The early Continentals probably were though as for certain years they outranked the Superior(at least according to price), making them second only to the Paramount in the Schwinn Hierarchy.
