Stupid Snow!
I was all ready for my usual 50 mile group ride this morning in Chester County, PA...but mother nature cruelly left a few mm of snow on the streets, just enough to make the roads dangerous.
I hit the rollers in the basement instead. Not nearly as satisfying. If I had a mountain or 'cross bike I would have taken it out, but I only have road bikes.
I know I am not going to get much sympathy here...maybe even a few "HTFU's" but I need to get it off my chest.
Plus I am tired of complaining about the new forum, so I needed something else to b*tch about.

LOL, I don't think you need to HTFU, this winter has been just brutal here in Chester County. In all my years of riding seriously (going all the way back to 2006) I have rarely missed a weekend ride during the winter, this winter I've only been outside a handful of times between all the cold rain, snow, 20 degrees and 30mph winds, I can't take much more. I rode saturday for 2hrs, it was the coldest I have ever been, this weekend isn't looking to pretty either. If the sun is out and it's 20+ I'm going out, I can't take another saturday/sunday morning trainer ride.

I tried to HTFU by riding out in fairly cold temps for 3 of the 1st 4 days of the year. Appeared to be adequately bundled up, as I wasn't cold during the rides. And what was I rewarded with?? How about a big, fat head, sinus and chest cold... uurrgghhh
What bothers me about the weather is how the long range (5-7 day) forecasts always seem to be such a tease. For example, on Mondays, the long range forecast will be calling for sunny, warm temps (at least for winter) for Friday and the weekend. But when the weekend does roll around it's always 10-15 degrees colder than what is predicted... again, what a ******* tease.

I get way too much snow this time of year to go ride at all. I'll be spending a lot of time on the rollers in the basement for the next couple of months. Once some of the snow is gone I'll get the MTB out on some frozen trails.

as a resident of philadelphia, i feel your pain. ive only been out twice in the last few weeks. i hate being stuck inside. it seems that on the days where its almost warm enough the wind is blowing 20mph or more.

We had the heaviest snowfall in recorded history last Monday, followed by record colds. Most small roads are covered with ice and snow; bigger roads have been heavily salted and are nasty to cross.
So I'm pretty annoyed by the snow as well.

wow i have no idea what you guys are going through. i can ride year round where i live - but the flipside is that the other half of the year it's like the vent from hell - 100+ temps regularly. would you rather freeze your ass off or sweat your ass off on a ride?

Here in Central New York it has snowed every day since Christmas. The cycling sucks but the skiing has been great!

I don't see how some of you guys don't go crazy seeing as that many of you have to shut down for a good part of the year. We rarely get below 32 here in Alabama, but the windchill is 3 with a steady snowfall. Schools and many businesses are closed. Many shut down just at the threat of the 1-2 inches of snow. I doubt we will even get an inch. My mom is worried about me driving with a whole 1/2 inch of snow on the ground even though I have 4 wheel drive. I think it is amazing how clueless we are down here about the fact that a huge portion of the country deals with real snow conditions all winter long without shutting down.

^^ It's all in what you are used to. I have no problem going out in the cold, just dress for it. But I can't ride my road bike on snowy or icy roads, it's just not safe.
