People wearing sacred jerseys...
What do you guys think about normal people wearing the Polka Dot, Yellow, and Rainbow jerseys, etc.
I personally think it takes away from the riders who actually earned them.
Kinda sacrilegious I think.
Heh?

Only sacrilegious if you deify racers. To me it would just look like a jersey, at worst pretentious if I recognized what it was but otherwise merely silly looking.

Jersey is a breed of cattle...IMO anything other than a local team jersey or a blank jersey isn't really doing anything other than screaming "LOOK AT ME" YMMV

You seem to be under the misunderstanding that there are certain clothes that you can wear or not wear, things that you can do or not do, equipment and gear that you can use or not use, that will immunize you from the scorn of other riders.
You're wrong. We're going to laugh at you no matter what you do or wear.

In the 50's and 60's Rally racers were awarded stripes for winning cars then Detroit started putting them on production cars.

Most definitely. And if you wear purple you're disrespecting Prince. Or Barney.

I didn't know this was that ridiculous. I mean, the point of the rainbow for instance is saying, "hey, I'm the ****ing guy who beat everyone, and now to let the world know that, I get to wear this crazy shirt with rainbows on it." It's like if you got a superbowl ring, felt really good about yourself, and then saw a crackhead selling them to anyone with a hundred dollars. it takes away from the exclusivity of being the only one buff enough to earn it.

"He man, nice bike, man. Hey wanna buy a polka dot jersey man, real cheap, cheapest you're gonna find and gonna make you climb like an angel with wings. What? The blood? Hey that ain't chit man. That, that, that'll come right out man. Come on man, I just need a rock. I gotta get right man. Help a brother out...."
It's just a jersey OP. A tad silly to seek them out to wear but as long as someone is wearing it and out riding... I'll take Fredly over enthusiasm any day over a non-biking cager mentality...

You gonna eat that?
It's a piece of lycra. Anyone who cares what color it is or what's printed on it needs to get a life. It's not pretentious, any more than wearing an NFL jersey is pretentious. Trust me, no one is going to confuse you with a champion cyclist. If you're riding with a group and some of the members of the group are dooshes enough to judge you for it, do what you need to blend in with the dooshbags.

I think of it more as an homage to the people who actually won those jerseys in competition. No problem for me...

I live with the creed that people are allowed to wear whatever they want that makes them comfortable. I don't judge what others wear, no matter whether or not I appreciate the style.

I don't know how "sacred" they need to be, when I started serious riding around 85, I bought a La Vie Claire & a 7/11 Jersey & wore them so much, they eventually wore out. I remember being in a race once(probably my first or second) in Detroit & everyone there kept calling me "La Vie Claire", it was pretty funny. "Hey, why dont you go line up by La Vie Claire". (I *think* I even had Lemond's name printed on the back of it).
I wouldn't worry too much about the perception from other riders if you wore something like that. They may laugh, but who cares?
